3.0 out of 5 stars A Dentist Reviews This Product, August 23, 2005
I am a dentist who recommends Crest White Strips to my patients because they do work to whiten teeth. However, they have to be used correctly and I recommend that you follow the directions exactly as specified inside the box.

This product contains 14% hydrogen peroxide, which is the most concentrated solution that Crest makes.

1. First brush your teeth with a wet toothbrush (no toothpaste) to remove the layer of plaque. Tooth enamel has pores and the pores need to be open for the chemical to penetrate.

2. Use the strips as directed in the instructional insert. The inner part of the strip has a chemical called carbamide peroxide (a 14% form of hydrogen peroxide; in-office dental whitening uses a 15-30% version of the same chemical) that causes the stains inside your teeth to be oxidized and turn white. Applying the strips has a small learning curve as you will probably bend or fold a couple of them before you get the technique down.

2. Leave the strips on for the specified amount of time. Don't exceed the time stated. As each day and treatment passes, your teeth should get whiter.

Disadvantages

1. The chemical can and probably will "burn" your gums. If you notice a burning sensation when you use the product, it is the chemical oxidizing (or burning) your gums. Depending on how severe the burning is, it may cause you to want to stop the treatment. It is OK to stop the treatment for a day or two to let the gums heal. Once they are normal again, resume treatment with the White Strips. Try to not ge the strip on your gums.

2. Your teeth may become senstiive during the treatment time. Try to tolerate the sensitivity if it is mild, but if more severe, take a day or two off to let the teeth settle down and then pick up where you left off. You may notice much more sensitivity to cold water, ice cream, etc. The peroxide causes an inflamation of the inner pulp, or nerve center of the tooth and makes the teeth very sensitive to biting or cold drinks or foods. If your teeth become too sensitive, back off on the strips until the sensitivity is gone before resuming bleaching.

3. The strips only cover your front teeth, so only your front teeth will bleach. You may notice the distinct difference between the back (unbleached) teeth and the front (bleached) teeth. Since most people notice the front 6 teeth anyway, this is not a big deal. However, if you have a wide toothy smile, you may want to have a dentist make you a tray that will hold the chemical on the back teeth to whiten them too.

3. The bleaching effect works best on yellow stains. If your stains are due to tetracycline (brownish grey stains in a band on your teeth, your best bet is to have a dentist whiten your teeth as the dentist will use a tray to hold a more concentrated form of the chemical on your teeth for a longer period of time.

Crest White Strips Supreme work for most people. Younger people with yellow stains seem to respond best. They don't work as well or as fast as a dentist-made custom-tray bleaching, but over time, you will get a result that will be close to that of a dentist, and you will save money too.

This is a good place to start with bleaching, and if you are not satisfied with the results, you can then see your dentist for a more concentrated form of bleaching.

The "Supreme" designation of this product means you get strips with a 14% carbamide peroxide concentration - much stronger than the "Professional" (6.5%), or the "Premium" (10%). The higher the concentration of peroxide the more chance for negative side effects, (i.e. sensitivity of the teeth). On the other hand, the stronger the bleach the fster the whitening.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tooth Bleaching Primer, September 4, 2008
I am a dentist who recommends Crest White Strips Supreme to my patients because they do work to whiten teeth. However, they have to be used correctly and I recommend that you follow the directions exactly as specified inside the box. This particular product is the strongest concentration that Crest makes - a 14% solution of hydrogen peroxide.

1. Use the strips twice per day for maximum efectiveness. The inner part of the strip has a chemical called carbamide peroxide (a 14% form of hydrogen peroxide that causes the stains inside your teeth to be oxidized and turn white. Applying the strips has a small learning curve as you will probably bend or fold a couple of them before you get the technique down. (If your teeth get too sensitive using this concentration, you can use the plain Crest Whitestrips, as it has a less concentrated bleaching agent. It will likely take longer to achieve whitening, but it may be more comfortable. The more concentrated the bleaching material, the faster the results.

2. Leave the strips on for 30 minutes at a time. After thirty minutes r3emove the strip and take off the excess gel from yoru teeth by rinsing. You can reapply a new strip immediately if you chose, for the treatment requires one hour of treatment time per day to work. It does not matter if you do this in one continuous 60-minute period or two 30-minute periods. Do this for two to three weeks and your teeth will get whiter. Very little resutls in extra whitening are gained beyond three weeks of therapy.

Disadvantages

1. The chemical can and may occasionally "burn" your gums.

2. Your teeth may become senstiive during the two-week treatment time. Try to push yourself through the sensitivity if it is mild, but if more severe, take a day or two off to let the teeth settle down and then pick up where you left off.

If your stains are due to tetracycline (brownish grey stains in a band on your teeth, your best bet is to have a dentist whiten your teeth with a very concentrated form of hydrogen peroxide for two sessions, and then continue with Crest Strips thereafter to continue the bleaching process.

Crest White Strips work for the vast majority of people. Crest White Strips are a good place to start with bleaching, and if you are not satisfied with the results, you can then see your dentist for a more concentrated form of bleaching.

I used them as directed and did notice definite whitening of my teeth, however I had to discontinue for a while because it caused extreme sensitivity to my teeth. It was too painful to continue.

5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY WHITE TEETH!!!!!!, June 16, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I decided to buy this product after a popup showed up on my screen one day for "Celebrity Sexy Teeth" which completely bashed Crest WhiteStrips Supreme. As I began researching it, I realized that there is no research to suggest that this other supposed whitener is any good and that individuals are even unsure of the ingredients coupled with the poor reviews it received.

Anywho, onto this GEM! I bought two boxes thinking that my teeth were so yellow that I would need two boxes to get the desired results. How wrong was I! After using the strips for less than a week, I already saw results.

I experienced minimal sensitivity, but I believe my teeth were more sensitive if I brushed them before using the strips which Crest does warn against. As such, I never had to skip a few days and my teeth are getting naturally whiter and I continue to receive compliments.

The box is not completely done yet; but my teeth are already several shades whiter!

I could not more highly recommend this product as I feel the results are equivalent to what one would get by paying hundreds of dollars for an hour in the dentist's chair; the results are just spread over a longer period. I feel that whitening over time, progressively, will cause people to wonder "Wow, there's something different about you but I can't put my finger on it!" Which I would much more prefer than "Oh wow, now your teeth are white!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Even works on Tetracycline stained teeth, January 18, 2008
By
Happy Shopper (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
You have to be willing to endure some pain but these actually will whiten Tetracycline staining. I've lost count on how many boxes I've used to lessen my extremely bad Tetracycline banding on my teeth, but I know I'm north of 25 boxes. BUT - it works! Slowly, but my teeth look SO MUCH better. I tried several of the Britesmile treatments but they were completely ineffective. The price on my two boxes was great (beat Ebay) and they arrived quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding product, May 8, 2006

(REAL NAME)
I've tried the Colgate Simply White Nite Gel you paint on your teeth before bed, and your saliva washes it away in about 5 minutes. So much for the all-night method. I've also tried the Crest Premium Plus Whitestrips, and had minimal results. BUT, recently tried the Crest Whitestrips SUPREME, purchased through my dentist, and this one REALLY DOES WORK. It comes with 84 strips, 42 upper and 42 lower, used twice a day for 21 days. I could see significant changes within DAYS. After using half the strips in 10 days, my teeth were already whiter than they had been for years, as far back as I can remember. Laser whitening through your dentist is quick to be sure, but usually costs $400-500. The overnight trays cost $75-100, and are effective, but who wants to wear some contraption on their teeth all night? At $50 for a 21-day supply, this is the logical choice. I would HIGHLY recommend asking your dentist to provide you with this product. I'm only HALF done, and am more than pleased with the results thus far. Was self conscious about my smile for years, but I'm already smiling! Look forward to final results in another 10 days!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Rest, April 18, 2008

I have tried many other crest whitening strips, but these are the only ones by far that really work. I am very happy with the results and will purchase again. I had little to no tooth sensitivity.

Simply, just a fantastic way to whiten teeth at a great price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very satisfied with product. BUT, May 8, 2008
The first time I bought this product at my Dentist's office for $68.00 and I should have gone back to my Dentist and bought them there again. Within three days I saw results when I used the product from my Dentist. My teeth were much lighter, but also very sensitive. I took a break for a few days and then only used the strips once a day and then cut down to every other day and then cut down to once a week.
To save some money I ordered online from here. The product I received does not seem to work the same like the one from my Dentist and I am assuming right now that I accidently received the 6.5% instead of the 14%.
I emailed the company for the first time over one week ago and have not received a reply as of yet. I am disappointed!!! I guess I have to take another $68 and buy the Whitening Strips from my Dentist again and just take the $40 plus shipping cost I paid here as a loss. :-(

5.0 out of 5 stars They work !, April 14, 2007
First thing I did was read reviews. The supreme version seemed to be the winner. I bought a 42 pack / 21 days. I noticed a difference with in a couple days. I just finished the package and I'm very pleased with the results. 21 days is more than enough. My wife told me today that my teeth are white again. Thumbs up for a great product!

4.0 out of 5 stars Crest, February 9, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This product was easy to use and did whiten my teeth. The product I received expiration date was 02/17/2008 however. I wish that information was given to me because I wasn't planning on using it right away but I had to as soon as I got it. You can use one strip at a time. For example, you can not put a strip on the top and at the bottom of your teeth at the same time/ You leave the strips on for 30 min and then throw them away. Taste of the products was not too bad either.
