5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must Read" before you hunt out of state. February 23, 2009
Format:Paperback
I could not put this book down and lost sleep because of it. I have bowhunted over 25 years (5 years out of state). I wish I knew then what I have learned in Chris' book! I felt as though I was hunting right along with Chris and I know if I had done what I learned in this book, I would have a few more wallhangers to display.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Non-Typical" Whitetail Book January 25, 2009
Format:Paperback
Having a library full of hunting books, I found one that will take the top spot in my "re-read" category. Chris Eberhart's portrayal of his 2005 Midwest Adventure chasing trophy whitetails is a great and very informative read. It was a real treat to read about a common hunter having uncommon success with the awesome whitetail deer.

So often nowadays, we get the feeling that unless we have food plots, managed land, trail cameras, etc. there is no possible way we can be consistently successful on mature whitetail deer. Chris shatters this myth with his latest book. Roaming the Midwest for 3 months, sleeping in his beat up van, eating cold soup, competing with myriads of other hunters, and putting in an otherworldly amount of time and effort into his dreams. Whitetail Access might as well be a blueprint for every blue-collar bowhunter who has dreamed of stepping out of their comfort zone and performing do-it-yourself whitetail hunts. A read I will definitely recommend to all of my hunting friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chris's Whitetail Adventures January 25, 2009
Format:Paperback
This was really an enjoyable book to read. However the title really should be "Chris' Whitetail Adventures" or something like that. It's a very personal narrative of 3 months of hunting on a budget. The book is laced with plenty of advice to help the hunter interested in hunting new locations on a budget.

Chris is quite eloquent and writes from his heart. He goes a little overboard on minute details sometimes, but it helps to convey his love for bowhunting and the part that small details play in bowhunting success.

Strangely absent is any mention of John Eberhart, Chris' father and his co-author on two previous bowhunting books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story, short on tactics. February 4, 2009
Format:Paperback
This is the third book that i have read from the Eberhardts. While this book did have some great hunting stories, it lacked the detailed information on tactics that i have read from the author before. Don't get me worng there were some great tips, but compared to the other books this was more of a story about one season's worth of hunts, and not so much about how to really do it yourself. If you are looking for a tactical book this one is not really it. Try one of their other books as that will focus more on the tactics than this book will. A great and fast read it was worth the money i paid.

Format:Paperback
With the popularity of deer-hunting-on-the-fly becoming more and more popular, Chris Eberhart shows you in eloquent prose how to make shooting big bucks across the nation a reality. Above all, he demonstrates how to do it on a shoestring budget. Mr. Eberhart is turning out to be one of most new, successful hunters in the United States. His writing is interesting and fun. The most important thing is that he is informative. This is a must read and a great gift for any hunter who seeks adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Whole Story December 27, 2012
By qfkeon
Format:Paperback
I'm assuming from other reviews that people purchased this book hoping for a "in this state, hunt this location and you will shoot a bug buck" guide. No book will give you that information and even if it did, those places would then be over hunted and worthless. If you like to hunt...really hunt...then you will love this book. I'm currently half-way through and this is what I have found: This book is a journey...months in the back of a mini-van traveling, scouting, and hunting. The author gives very specific detail about his hunting situations, scouting, and terrain features. If you are the type of hunter who is always looking for new places, understands deer sign, and isn't afraid of straying too far from the nearest road then you will get a lot out of this book. If you have one stand in one location and that is all you ever hunt, you might not be able to connect the dots that will make this book worthwhile. I'm very impressed so far.
