Book Description

Two years ago, TV New York producer Whitney Benson returned to her roots in Ohio after her husband’s death in Iraq. Her older sisters, Shannon and Regan, think Whitney needs to move on with her life. They want her to be like them—happily married with children. Whitney is tired of her older sisters' attempts to fix her up with every single male they meet. Shannon and Regan cross the line when they arrange for her to go skydiving with the reason that more guys like to float in the air than women. Whitney hates flying and heights.

She realizes her sisters are busy with matchmaking to keep their minds off their mother’s recent death from cancer. She decides to suggest the three of them start a business and hopes that will take the focus off their constant matchmaking efforts. The sisters have fun considering several businesses from a cable TV talk show to an all-girl band. Whitney does wonder if her sisters can treat her as an equal in their new family business instead of their baby sister.

Whitney meets two eligible bachelors, paramedic Jack Hensley and Dr. Ben Spencer, who constantly battle for her affection. Which one will she choose? Both men make Whitney realize, even a heart shattered by her husband's death, can once again be made whole.

But did she have to fall and hit her head on a rock to figure that out?

5.0 out of 5 stars Whitney Takes Charge! An engaging read August 18, 2009
Format:Kindle Edition
Craver crafts a wonderful tale about sisterhood, friendships, and falling in love with "Whitney In Charge." The Taylor Sisters are passionate, caring, and a total hoot thanks to Craver's careful storytelling. Shannon is the oldest, about to turn forty and facing that number isn't a pleasant thought. Regan is the middle sister and has to balance motherhood, sisterhood, and being a wife, but it's Whitney who shines as she learns to mend her broken heart with the help of her concerned sisters.

The story starts with Shannon and Regan offering Whitney skydiving lessons in the hopes that she'll meet a man. Whitney's husband was a war correspondent in Iraq and lost his life there. Whitney, who was a producer for a news show came back to her home town to take care of her mother, who was dying. She's spent the last couple of months grieving her husband and mother, and her sisters want to her to open a new chapter in her life.

While Whitney agrees to tentatively date, she does get her sisters to agree to open up a business with her. What that business is, there's much debate. Whitney meets a neighbor, Ben, with a young son, Adam. Ben is divorced. Whitney also meets a paramedic, Jack, through Regan. Let the best man win.

Craver's writing style is engaging and easy to read. The opening chapter grabs the reader right away as Shannon and Regan show concern and love for Whitney. Craver's characters are quirky and fun. Whitney is a heroine that modern women can identify with. There are no love scenes in the book, just a few hot kisses and a sensual touching scene, which are tastefully done. If anything, I would have loved more sensual scenes between Whitney and Jack. "Whitney In Charge" is a nice romantic interlude that will leave the reader with a smile.

Whitney In Charge, by Diane Craver.
I enjoyed this true-to-life portrayal of two older sisters, trying to help their little sis put her life back together after the tragedy of losing her husband. They keep trying to fix her up with eligible bachelors. Then one hopeful swain causes an accident that results in a rescue effort by another interesting single. Suddenly, Whitney has two available males dancing attendance. Throughout the book, we see a warming sense of family, as they share sadness and joy.

2.0 out of 5 stars not much to it August 10, 2013

Overall cute story. Took a while to get past all the grammatical and editing errors but it had a nice story. Don't expect any hot steamy love scenes, but only good old fashioned romance.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute Read March 3, 2013

This is a book that highlights the family dynamic between three sisters. The plot was cute, similar to something you'd see in a romantic comedy. It wasn't the great American novel, but it was entertaining.

Should have given Ben more of a chance. Ended too abrupt. No excitement.. Should have been a lot more drama. Think author could have done better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good sister story, but I felt it was lacking
This book was okay, but I didn't click with it. I don't have any sisters, so maybe I just don't get that sisterly dynamic which was the main point of this book. Read more

I gave the book three stars, as it was an ok read but the plot/storyline was pretty flimsy. Grammar issues drive me crazy and this book had plenty. Read more

There is a little bit of "Whitney" in all of us! Diane Craver reminds us it is never too late, and we don't need an excuse, to get out there and live life more full.
