it made me laugh and touched my heart with life's fragility,
This review is from: The Whitney Chronicles: The Whitney Chronicles, Book 1 (Life, Faith & Getting It Right #1) (Steeple Hill Cafe) (Paperback)
I loved every bit of this book! I laughed outloud silly during the first part of the book and then things got serious when Whitney's friend, Kim, is diagnosed with breast cancer. I do wish the summary on the back cover hinted to a serious plot twist but it was fine. The author wove it all in beautifully and there were laughs amid tears.
Book is filled with prayer guidance as well as scripture references that I found inspiring and perfectly fit in the story. I would like to think we will see Whitney again in another journaling type book. hint hint!!!

Touching Christian chick lit,

This review is from: The Whitney Chronicles: The Whitney Chronicles, Book 1 (Life, Faith & Getting It Right #1) (Steeple Hill Cafe) (Paperback)
I love chick lit, but often the subject matter doesn't fall in line with my beliefs. I had no idea that there was good Christian chick lit out there, and now I'm hooked! This book was very entertaining and also inspiring. Reading about Whitney's transformation and her eventual peace in giving every aspect of her life over to God really touched me. I was also inspired by her weight loss, and have made note of several verses that were in the book.
I'd defnitely recommend this book to a non-believer, especially one who is in the process of learning about Christianity. It will also challenge even the most steadfast Christian to make sure that they are really giving God glory in their everyday lives. What a fun read!

Laugh Out Loud,

This is a sort of Christian girl's alternative to Bridget Jone's Diary and I can honestly say I was enthralled from beginning to end.
Until I started reading chick lit I was never a fan of first person POV but it really works with these sorts of books. Part of me is a bit stunned that I am of the age where I am identifying with these women but another part of me rejoiced and cried with them. I really enjoyed the way each woman's faith played a part in her search for love. And I loved the way Whitney found love in the end. This book is one that I highy recommend. It's a great summer or beach read.

funny and extremely enjoyable,
This review is from: The Whitney Chronicles: The Whitney Chronicles, Book 1 (Life, Faith & Getting It Right #1) (Steeple Hill Cafe) (Paperback)
It's Whitney Blake's birthday and she's just turned the big three-oh. In celebration she starts a journal detailing all the ways she is improving mentally, physically and spiritually. She hasn't had all that much luck at being perfect in the past, but one must try. Her entries include weight loss, being a perfect employee, finding a fabulous, single Christian man. That last one might be a tad difficult, giving her former experiences.
Something seems to be working, because suddenly Whitney has more men than she knows what to do with. Eric, her long time friend, decides he's in the mood for romance. Matt Lambert is handsome, charming, and really knows how to treat a girl. And then there's Dr. Chase Andrews, the man with the compassionate manner and the beautiful sapphire eyes. But problems keep cropping up to mar Whitney's new perfect life. her mother is battling menopause, her best friend has cancer, and apparently all of the men in her life are afraid of a long-term committment, like marriage. The Whitney Chronicles is a fun, witty story that will keep you guessing right up to the end. Whitney is a funny, sassy heroine who may not have a clue what's going on most of the time, but you'll back her all the way.

I really enjoyed this book!,

I'm an aspiring Christian romance writer, and I'd always heard how hard it is to successfully write in the first person, as if you were telling the story all the time, because you're only getting one person's point of view. It limits what the reader knows. Because this book is written in first person (the main character is writing in her journal) and was successfully published, I wanted to read it and see why it worked.
It worked because this book is "laugh out loud" hilarious both in the main character's personal thoughts and in the real-life wackiness of her co-workers. I could relate! There are serious, poignant moments, too, and I loved seeing the main character choosing to live her life with spiritual integrity, keeping her focus where it belongs (on her relationship with her Lord) even while she desires a relationship with Mr. Right. I've been recommending this book to everyone! Great read!

At many points while reading this, I wondered if I'd actually met the author and she was describing me. I loved that it takes place where I live (St Paul), but better yet, it was realistic and funny and Christian without being sappy and overly predictable. The best part was that it made me laugh out loud a lot, even while on public transportation. I highly recommend this book!

I loved this book!!! Its funny, witty, endearing, serious, challenging, and encouraging all in one. It definitely kept me well entertained. I didn't want it to end! I'm definitely excited for the sequal! I love the whole chick-lit deal. I also really like Judy Baer's use of scripture and how she made the heroine have some flaws. Its a fun read.

As a single 20-something Christian who has always loved Chick Lit, I have to say this is one of the best books I've read in quite a while. Whitney was not only someone whom I could identify with, but she was someone who's continued growth and faith inspired me as well. I highly reccommend this book to any girl, young or old!

Overall the book was good, but I have to agree with several reviewers:
there's nothing that turns me off from a book like jumpsuits, the lack of believable situations, and when this book finally reaches it's climax, the writer saps away the finale by summing it up in one page. It took me two days to get to the good part and you're going to end it in a rush like that?! What a waste!

I picked this book up on a whim from the library. I couldn't put it down. It wasn't written in your 'normal' fashion book. It is written like a journal. The book isn't a slow read or boring. I enjoyed the book so much that I will be looking at other books from this author.
