Book Description

January 2000 8 and up3 and upEmerald Bible Collection
Whitney would do anything to get to soccer practice, even copy a friend's homework so she won't have to waste time on boring Math herself. But what was supposed to be a one-time solution becomes a habit. Copying homework leads to copying a quiz--and getting caught. The teacher's demand for a confession on who was cheating from whom puts the girls' friendship on the line. Whitney turns to Nana's Emerald Bible for help and gets sent back in time to King Solomon's court. The uncanny wisdom of the king and the "wisdom" of the strange foreign girl are tested when two women come to court, both claiming to be mother of the same child. Whitney offers a solution to the king, who in turn tells Whitney what she must do in her own situation to at last make things right with both her friend and her teacher.

About the Author

Therese Johnson Borchard has always been inspired by the wisdom of the Bible. As a young child, especially, she was intrigued by biblical characters and awed by their courage. She pursued her interest in religion throughout college and obtained an M.A. in theology from the University of Notre Dame. In her pamphlets and other books, she creatively retells the great stories of the Judeo-Christian tradition

Wendy VanNest began drawing as a small, fidgety child seated beside her father in church. He gave her his bulletin to scribble on to help her keep still during the service. People around them began donating their bulletins, asking her for artwork, and at the end of the service, an usher would always give her his carnation boutonniere. As a result of this early encouragement, she has pursued her interest and passion in art and has been drawing ever since. She resides in Oxford, MD.
