Emotionally Yours,
By Michael Kerner "Michael Kerner" (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Whitney Houston / Whitney (Audio CD)
When it comes to divas today, they seem to be more about heartache and sorrow. With Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and company, the feeling of an artist and the voice feels like it is lost in the trace. That also can be said from artists from the past like Whitney Houston. During her height of her career in the 80's and 90's, she had brougth the definitive voice that a lot of younger divas couldn't even bring a soul and sophistocation to. Yet, the past couple of years have been rough for her, as she embattled the death of her father John, a heartached divorce from her ex-husband Bobby Brown, and substance abuse fallout. But, a lot of us want her to bring the voice backout, and we hope to hear it soon. In the meantime, there is always the classics.
This 2 pack of Whitney Houston's first two records 1985's self-titled album, Whitney Houston and her 1987 sophmore smash Whitney, reflect the breakout soul standards we all know and love from an angel who has shined so brightly for over 20 years. The two albums show the best distinction of why we still love Whitney Houston so much. The collection includes her breakout hits like the #1 triumphs Saving All My Love For You, her first major hit You Give Good Love, as well as classic her standards like The Greatest Love Of all, all the way to her dance smashes I Wanna Dance With Somebody and So Emotional. The songs really take you back to why her voice is just still a dynamite to enjoy. While it could've been remastered a bit better, the albums are still great to listen to today, rather than an artist that is more about looks on the outside. All in all, Whitney Houston and Whitney will just have to tide over die hard fans until her next album, hopefully comes out very soon. These two are still a delight to enjoy as they were relased back in the 80's. I still love these songs, and if you've never heard anything Whitney Houston recorded, than you don't know what you've missed, and that is worth saving all the love for.
