How to create a jazzy Web site and dazzle your friends.
With its assumption that users have at least a little HTML and graphics knowledge under their belts already, "Whiz Bang Web Site F/X" does a decent job of enumerating all the "cool and powerful" goodies at hand necessary to create a dazzling Web site.
To be sure, not a whole lot of new ground is tilled here, but author Tom Lockwood's enthusiasm and...

Not what it claims...
This book spends a lot of time saying "this is what you can do," but not, "do it this way..." It claims to be for both Mac and PC users but has very little resources for the Mac. Even though what is written is written well, this book doesn't provide near the information/resources ("for anyone who has some experience creating web pages" p.2)...

This book is cute, but not for mac users, June 15, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Whiz Bang Web Site F/X (Paperback)
This is a neat little book which claims to have a CD with it that has all sorts of software for HTML authors that use either a Macintosh or PC system. However, they justify this claim with approximately four Mac programs to the sixty or seventy PC-compatible programs. The book itself isn't really worth the forty bucks, so unless you use a PC machine, I wouldn't recommend it

To be sure, not a whole lot of new ground is tilled here, but author Tom Lockwood's enthusiasm and in-depth sections on tables and frames, as well as a handy Windows/Mac CD-ROM (HotMetal HTML Assistant, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Arena Design VRML Editor, GIF Construction Set, Shareware Library) assure a valuable read and worthy trip nevertheless.
The "F/X" here may not be world class, but they certainly won't put you to sleep.

good for beginners, May 2, 1997

This book is good for beginners. If you're new to creating graphics, it provides some basic framework but one disappointment is that it doesn't go into extensive discussions on achieving those cool effects and design. You are sort of left wanting for more information.
The book however gives you guidelines on achieving
those cool effects that you want in a web page.
