5.0 out of 5 stars Sincere, with evidence of maturity...
I am a fan of the Jonas Brothers for one reason: they are sincere. They make music about what they know, and surprisingly good music too. With Nick's solo album, he managed to hold on to that sincerity while delivering a cohesive, mature album. We see a new side of him, a side that definitely veers away from the pop/rock typical of the Brothers. This side has soul, and an...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Effort, Gets Old Fast
When I first got this CD last year, I was madly in love with the songs. Nick Jonas just has this way with music and lyrics--a real God-given talent. But after a month or two, I found myself listening to it less and less. After a year, it's barely ever in my CD player anymore. I even noticed that several of his songs ("Conspiracy Theory", for one) sound a lot like songs of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Sincere, with evidence of maturity..., July 21, 2010
This review is from: Who I Am: Deluxe Edition (CD & DVD) (Audio CD)
I am a fan of the Jonas Brothers for one reason: they are sincere. They make music about what they know, and surprisingly good music too. With Nick's solo album, he managed to hold on to that sincerity while delivering a cohesive, mature album. We see a new side of him, a side that definitely veers away from the pop/rock typical of the Brothers. This side has soul, and an adult sound. However, the music is still family-friendly. He has managed to stay true to his image and self without sacrificing good music.

Best Tracks:
Who I Am - This is a great song and provides a wonderful segue from the Jonas Brothers' sound to the new Nick Jonas sound.
Olive & An Arrow - This song has mature lyrics and is a great song for melancholy days.
Conspiracy Theory - The lyrics to this song are a little too repetitive for me, yet the hard rock feel is pulled off wonderfully.
State of Emergency - This song is great because it explores the messier side of life...or at least as messy as life gets for a Jonas Brothers. Like the others, it is sincere and heartfelt. Also, it has a great rock sound, with a little bit of funk.

P.S. I am not a young girl. I am a grown woman with discerning taste in music, who merely appreciates the potential in Nick and the Jonas Brothers as serious musicians, not just Disney heart-throbs. I hope my review is helpful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Effort, Gets Old Fast, March 1, 2011

This review is from: Who I Am: Deluxe Edition (CD & DVD) (Audio CD)
When I first got this CD last year, I was madly in love with the songs. Nick Jonas just has this way with music and lyrics--a real God-given talent. But after a month or two, I found myself listening to it less and less. After a year, it's barely ever in my CD player anymore. I even noticed that several of his songs ("Conspiracy Theory", for one) sound a lot like songs of his well-known musical influences (such as the great Stevie Wonder). There are days when I do still get the urge to pop this in my stereo, but those are few and far in between. As a person who LOVES music--all genres--it takes a lot for me to NOT want to listen to an album I've purchased. More often than not, I'm stuck trying to decide which one to put in because I love so many. It's a bit too easy to opt out of this one.

**Side note: The song he wrote & performed on his tour for this album ("Stay") is still a favorite of mine. I definitely recommend going to iTunes and at least buying THAT.**
