This is Dispatch's most musical album. You will be amazed after listening to it just once. It incorpoates all of their influences into one crazy, funky, wild album. "Who Are We Living For?" asks exactly just that. I guess Dispatch didn't know who their aduience was when they made this album so they made it for everyone. It's reggae, hard rock, funky, and folk...

3.0 out of 5 stars Totally not Dispatch!
I was quite displeased when I first listened to this album, why? Because it is TOATALLY NOT DISPATCH! It reminds me of Weezer's attempt to make a u-turn with their sound when they released their second and worst album: Pinkerton. Though I can't deny that there a few good songs on it - hence the three stars - but they don't have that one-of-a-kind sound that they showed...

It's reggae, hard rock, funky, and folk influences flow magically through its 17 tracks. Their first 3 albums had distinctive sounds: "Silent Steeples" is highly acoustic; "Bang Bang" is highly funky; "Four-Day Trials" captures their live sound. This album is nothing like that. It's better! Their vocal songs are interlaced with several unique instrumentals. "Open Up" is probably the best song on the album. It has a reggae influences and a funky beat. "Time Served" and "Headlights" bring out their harder influences. Lyrically, this album is innovative. Instrumentally it's wild. They have a song entirely comprised of percussion. Probably their most catchy tune is "Even." It will get stuck in your head forever. If you like music you will love this album. I suggest checking out their previous albums as well. This band is the one band out there today that can do it any which way you want it. They put so much energy into their performances; on stage and in the studio. If you don't go out and check this band and this album out you are selling yourself short.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, but not for new Dispatch listeners, July 29, 2001

The CD is great -- it has masterfully intertwined lyrical songs and instrumentals. I would stray from it if all the Dispatch you have heard is The General or Elias; you know, more of their acoustic genre. Some great tracks, including Carry You, Open Up, Headlights, and Mission are on this one. It takes a few times through the album before you really catch on, but before long I promise that you will be humming along or drumming your fingers to the beat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good CD, December 22, 2000
This review is from: Who Are We Living for (Audio CD)
Dispatch formally known as One Fell Swoop has matured into a great band. Their earlier music was great, but with each new CD they surpass themselves. The new music displays the growth in talent and experience they have gained in the years. I recommend all their CD's, but don't miss out on their older CD's under the name One Fell Swoop with hits like The General and Bats in the Bellfry. This CD is great so buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Such an awesome CD, February 7, 2001

This CD is simply amazing. It captures every other album and puts it into one. I recently saw Dispatch in concert, and seeing them live gave me a whole new perspective on their music. This CD combines their crazy concerts with unbelievable lyrics and funky folk rock music. "Open Up" and "Time Served" are both really great songs. "Prince of Spades" is so cool, and is just a song to think about. I could name everyone track on this album and tell you why it's worth listening to, but I won't. THIS CD is worth the money! Dispatch rocks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well its Dispatch., July 23, 2007
This review is from: Who Are We Living for (Reis) (Dig) (Audio CD)
Before I begin I might mention that this band is by far my favorite band -ever. Why? Because every song they write is good and their songwriting skills are surpassingly diverse (as all three members write songs.) This album especially reflects that diversity as it encompasses that chill acoustic feel of their first album (Silent Steeples) along with the reggae feel of songs like Bats in the Belfry from their 2nd album (Bang Bang). This album adds along to it some straight rock and roll and funk with songs like Time Served that just scream i just listend to a Rage album 50 times in a row. Its quite simply endless good music. Buy it and enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Underrated, December 10, 2006
This review is from: Who Are We Living for (Reis) (Dig) (Audio CD)
For some reason, people do not view this as an essential Dispatch recording. This may be because of its evolved sounds, or simply because there is something a little different, but i can assure you that it is an amazing cd and that it is a great addition to any Dispatch fan. Once you weed through all of the instrumentals and jams that are present on this cd, some great dispatch songs emerge, ones that will yeild repeated listenes, and even enter some top fives.

Hidden away on this cd are the great tracks:
Open Up
Time Served
Lightning
Prince of Spades
Headlights
Gone(My favorite Dispatch Song)

Although this cd is not primarily acoustic like the previous two, this cd provides listen to the direction the band may have taken if they had stayed together longer. There is so much raw energy here, and is something no dispatch fan should miss out on. If you are just starting out, try Bang Bang as your introduction to Dispatch

4.0 out of 5 stars Give it a chance., March 12, 2003
This review is from: Who Are We Living for (Audio CD)
An earlier reviewer compared this album to Weezer's "Pinkerton," which I think is a very good comparison, in that "Who Are We Living For?" is an excelent album that many fans will hate at first because it is so different from the band's other work. It has most definitely grown on me, though. It would do music in general quite a lot of good if fans would stop being terrified by evolution of style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing, January 24, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Who Are We Living for (Audio CD)
This cd is incredible! It incorporates so many different genres of music together. Within the first 2 songs you see extreme differences. "Open Up", "Passerby", and "Carry you" are beautifully written. Each with a character of its own. It's an amazing album. I had never heard Dispatch before I bought the album, but I'm very glad that I did, I'm hooked!! I recommend it, and Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars More people should know., December 2, 2011
This review is from: Who Are We Living for (Reis) (Dig) (Audio CD)
Dispatch has made a living of playing folk influenced Bob-Marley Rock music. Maybe a little 311 without so much electric guitar, and minus the turtables. Great music all together. But this album is a step outside the shell. Gone are the 2 and 3 part acoustics, having been replaced through and through by electric guitars. The amaxing 3 part vocal harmonies are still in tact, though, and they shine. A very solid, tight, 3 man band that can play anything from Sublime and Pepper to Rage Against that Machine. Albiet without the heavy metal. No, they are very mellow, but in a lot of cases, fast paced. This album shows the band as they were ready to wind up their recording career, and as such, wanted to go out with a bang. While Dispatch used to do a lot of instrument switching between it's members, (something they still do in concert) this album shows them staying mostly true to their respective instruments. Lead Guitar, Bass Guitar, and Drums. Lets sum it up this way, if Jack Johnson, and Bob Marley got together to play a Rock album, it would probably sound like this. With better singers of course.

Dispatch is my favorite band, and i love all their albums and all their live stuff. Each album has it's own major sound, they progressed through the years. I personally think they got way better. I love the old acoustic stuff from silent steeples, and those songs are constantly playing on my ipod and cd player, and bang bang as well im in love with, but i think who are we living for just shows the true growth and development of their music. I love all the tracks on this album, there's nothing i skip, as i do with other albums at times.
