2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Profound Here
Basically a collection of stories, quotes and simplistic questions. The authors state the obvious, tell you stories about it, back it up with qoutoes and ask simplistic questions intended to give you insights on how to change your life. Don't waste you time with this one. Sorry but this is nothing but filler. All those pages and nothing profound.

This review is from: Who Are You and What Do You Want? (Hardcover)
Although it's an exceedingly rare event, every once in a while you'll have the good fortune to encounter a book that in just a few pages can change your life forever. Who Are You and What Do You Want? by Mick Ukleja and Robert Lorber is one such book. Using a new approach called Four-Dimensional Thinking, the authors lay out a system for helping readers get in tune with their TRUE life goals (NOT the ones that someone else has defined for them), and then creating a plan that will enable them to achieve these goals. I especially like the last chapter -- Your 48-Hour Personal Retreat. The chapter guides you through the process of Four-Dimensional Thinking, using a series of particularly insightful exercises. Long story short, this book provides a no-nonsense, back-to-the-basics approach to bringing out your very best, and achieving success on YOUR terms. The authors have poured their hearts into this book, and it really shows. I personally can't wait to put it to work in my own life! Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creating your own best life, May 14, 2008
This review is from: Who Are You and What Do You Want? (Hardcover)
Mick Ukleja and Robert Lorber have written an excellent book in all respects: clear and direct writing, solid organization that builds to a practical crescendo, meaningful and plentiful examples that make the authors' concepts real, and a values-based foundation that weaves conceptual material with application seamlessly. The book is designed to help readers change their own lives, and the positive energy of the authors that jumps from the pages will entice readers to apply this work to their own life spaces. One gets a personal took kit along with the book: Four Dimensional Thinking, SMART planning, the Johari Window, and the 48-Hour Personal Retreat can be applied to each of our lives. This is truly a book from which one gets as much as one chooses. And for those who want to take responsibility for a journey of success and happiness, Mick Ukleja and Robert Lorber provide a process that will help us learn who we are and what we want. Taking the actual steps is on our plates!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book May Have Saved My Company, June 4, 2008
This review is from: Who Are You and What Do You Want? (Hardcover)
I want to tell you how important "Who Are You and What Do You Want?" was to me. I own a successful commercial printing company and after 17 years I wanted to try something different. I started a new company last year and because of the lead talent in this new firm the prospects for quick success were high. But after nine months of slow progress, struggles, and having no real sense of where I should now direct this company, I pulled together my advisory board and we all started to ask some very tough questions. The consensus was that we needed to start over, regroup, and come up with a solid plan. Even though we had pressing deadlines and some current opportunities, we had to stop chasing random leads and spend time sharpening our saw.

But I didn't know how to sharpen a saw -- or if the saw was the problem. I needed help so I started to scan the current business books on Amazon and found this book. What got me to buy was the title, and the emphasis on learning how to plan your life and/or business around your personal strengths. I've read many business books over the years and some of the concepts in this book I'm familiar with -- but what is new is the way the worksheets and questionnaires combine a person's personality traits with "What Do You Want?" This was unique, clarifying, and amazing. They even have you do a time-line of your entire life -- all successes, failures, lost loves, etc... This was scary, fun, depressing, hopeful, melancholy, embarrassing, and the best. This exercise helps you identify patterns of mistakes and successes.

As of this writing, I'm three quarters of the way in finishing my business plan for my new company: Project time-lines, measurable goals, 90/10 rule, using my strengths and getting talented help for other jobs, etc... All these innovative ideas are being put to use in my new business.

The writers of this book have created a truly important book. I don't think I'm overstating this when I say this book probably saved my company, and maybe a lot more.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book you'll want to keep handy and read often, January 27, 2009

This review is from: Who Are You and What Do You Want? (Hardcover)

What do you really want out of living your life? Not what you can have - or what you must have - but what do you really want to have out of living your life? This book is designed to assist you in finding your own answers to four questions that will help you find your own unique person and purpose:

1. Who are you and what do you want?
2. Where are you and why are you there?
3. What will you do and how will you do it?
4. Who are your allies and how can they help?

Most people spend more time planning their vacations than they do their lives - but a life lived with true personal purpose is infinitely more rewarding.

This book is about discovering what energizes you and how to use that knowledge to shape a plan and purpose that will have you getting up each and every morning energized and excited about the day ahead. The reader discovers much more than a process, you discover a way of thinking. And the tools to create a plan that will ignite action and deliver results.

The authors speak from prepared lives, rather than prepared lessons. A friend of mine, Charlie Jones, used to say that you need to talk to people who have done what you want to do and who have gone where you want to go. These two authors bring credibility to their book not only with their own accomplishments, but with the accomplishments of those they have coached and mentored.

I have a shelf of books I reach for over and over again--that I read and reread. Up to now books like The Bible, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, What Would Jesus Do? The Greatest Salesman in the World, and The One Minute Manager have been on it. Now Who Are You and What Do You Want? joins them.

Don't buy this book thinking your life will change by osmosis. Buy this book knowing that you will create the life you were meant to live - filled with passion, purpose, energy, and power because you used it as the road map it was meant to be - as you use the questions, the tools, and the processes in the book to create and execute your ultimate plan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who you are and What do you want, June 2, 2008
This review is from: Who Are You and What Do You Want? (Hardcover)
Great book. This is the kind of resource you keep forever. Not just for yourself but for the people you love. If you have teenages or fiends who are struggling with who they want to be when they grow up, this book will help them find the path. It's good straight forward advise and it will resonate with young people. I loved it. Thanks!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a must-read if you want to live your best life, August 1, 2008
This review is from: Who Are You and What Do You Want? (Hardcover)
Don't purchase this book if you don't want to change your life in a truly meaningful way!

I purchased this book a couple of months before I was going to hear Mick speak at a conference and started reading it and doing the reflection questions. Doing these reflections compelled me to think about my life in a different way....it opened my eyes to new possibilities and new understanding of who I am and, it helped me gain a clearer understanding of my life. Then I heard Mick speak so passionately and eloquently at the conference and was further inspired to continue the journey.

The book gives you the tools and asks the really important questions about your life and where you are going. The last chapter gives instructions for doing a 48 hour personal retreat. I recently completed the personal retreat and it was a truly amazing experience. It has changed my life, it has helped me define what I really want, what is really important, what I am currently doing that is contradictory to my values, and I learned a lot more about my life, myself, my tendencies, my aspirations, and so much more!

"Who Are You and What Do You Want?" is an amazing and transformational book! I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone interested in assessing their life and making meaningful adjustments to it! This book will answer many questions, open up many new possibilities and it will change the rest of your life to the best of your life....guaranteed....if you don't agree, you can have your old life back!

It gives you indepth answers in a way that's easy to understand and even easier to carry out. I found immediate results on taking control of my own agenda...and that was only after a few chapters. Definitely worth reading whether you need some guidance or if you're just looking for a few tips for tweaking things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Revealing Unconscious Competence, May 31, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Who Are You and What Do You Want? (Hardcover)
Often, the things we are best at are done unconsciously. You can ask a great songwriter how they do it and they shrug and say, "I don't know. It just comes out that way."

This books helps you peel back the layers of the onion to expose why you do things a certain way, why you think a certain way and why you react a certain way.

Knowing those once-hidden strengths will help you make wiser decisions in the future. It's not a crystal ball but it can help you avoid a sucker punch. I highly recommend this book.
