Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-K-- Two Japanese imports illustrated with vibrant, cheerful watercolors that feature a seek-and-find format. The title questions are asked, and readers must look for an item in a picture on the facing page. Unfortunately, the verbs used in the simple texts may cause some confusion. The animals and children don't actually ``eat'' the foods that then show up somewhere on their bodies in the first book or ``hide'' items that must be searched for in the second. Even though the questions could be posed in a more accurate fashion, these titles will appeal to young children. Lively color combinations make the illustrations leap from the pages, and the interactive format is intriguing.

More About the Author

Taro Gomi is probably best known in the UK for the highly popular Doodle Books, although his creative genius actually extends much further than the few translations that have appeared in English. The total number of his books in print in Japan exceeds three hundred, including children's books, art books, essay collections, and more. Gomi's books appeal to both adults and children-- since most of them consist mainly of pictures, they can be enjoyed by anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise, January 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Who Ate It? (Pb) (Paperback)
The very first time I read this to my daughter she asked me to read it again... then again... and again. Now, she 'reads' it to us! She cannot read the words, but she remembers them from the pictures.

Nice illustrations. Get's the 1-2 year olds involved by having them find something in the pictures.
