So, I just bought this download today after discovering the band. I have to say I'm impressed.
There is such a wide variety of sound coming from this band. Some songs are heavy and powerful with driving drums. The bass/guitars feels like a freight train and the singer screams as though you tried to steal his microphone. Then there are songs like Taqism/improvisation which bring in whole new elements, with acoustic guitar, hand drumming, and a melodic, almost tribal feel which is extremely relaxing. In fact, this track is the last of the album, and the next artist on my playlist is Ali "Farka" Toure, and it's an awesome transition. The use of samples is reminiscent of Aus-Rotten and the like; well chosen and able to portray not only the meaning, but the feeling of the track. I give this album 4 stars not because it's not worthy of 5, but because I feel like, as this band grows and evolves, they will only improve. As they evolve, I feel they will grow more technical and their already strong ability to tie music of various genres together will become a force to be reckoned with. I expect great things. My only complaint: I can't find lyrics anywhere! Posting lyrics (multiple languages maybe?) on the band's myspace page or elsewhere would be much appreciated! Also, if the band is reading this: Thanks!

Al-Thawra happen to be one of my fave Taqx bands. But, they're quite dynamic . Listening to each song, you can hear the different influences and styles. Al Thawra, one minute sounds like a hardcore band, grindcore, then death metal riffs come outta nowhere. The awesome thing is, the songs get better and better in track listing.
You have to ask yourself "Who Benefits".. you do if you buy this album!

The internet is amazing. I discovered Al-Thawra by one of the happiest coincidences. Basically, I googled 'punk rock in Arabic' and an article about taqwacore came up, mentioning al-thawra and I immediately downloaded this album. I can't say enough good things about it, and it's strange coming from me as I usually listen to faster stuff and about as crusty as I get is GG Allin but I probably listen to this album in its entirety once a day. It flows really well and even though Marwan's screams are as omnipresent, angry, and huge as the voice of God condemning Gomorrah, there is a relaxing effect as you listen. Unless you don't want to relax, then you can crank the volume and rock out. It's versatile like that. Al-alwan al-dunya is the best song, in my humble opinion.
