Book Description

February 21, 2012
Casey Anthony was found "not guilty" of murdering her daughter Caylee. Most people were outraged by the verdict--convinced that Casey was guilty. The looming question for many is why? What provokes or motivates a mother to kill her child? Was Casey deranged, or, in a moment of rage, did she just snap? Dr. Leslie Seppinni explores the pathway of Casey's lies to her ultimate escape from justice. A mixed-race woman who truly knows adversity, Dr. Seppinni survived abandonment, abuse, and molestation to ultimately fulfill a tragedy to triumph life story. She proposes that a mother doesn't have to come from a wretched background with a terrible history of abuse in order to murder her child. Believing TV psychologists and psychiatrists have become too "solution focused" and have virtually turned the mental health profession into "life coaching with a prescription pad," Dr. Seppinni takes a look at moms who kill--and why--and shows that women have the same narcissistic motivations to murder as men: the pursuit of dominance, money, sex, and power.

Even as someone who is still captivated by the entire Anthony saga, I was neither informed nor entertained by any part of this book. Why did I keep reading? I was hopeful it would get better at some point. I was wrong. Instead, I was unable to shake the feeling that this book was composed by a high school kid struggling to meet a minimum word count (and using a low-level psychology textbook for reference). She offers little insight into Casey's behavior, by the way--don't let the title deceive you. Instead, she gives us pages of quoted material loosely related to the topic at hand interspersed with her weak analysis.

The book's bland and jumbled content is not the only problem, however; it is marred by prominent technical errors. Before I read Who Is Casey Anthony?: Understanding the Motherly Motivation to Murder, I didn't mind the word "moreover." That was until the author used that word at least twenty times throughout her short work. Moreover (to use the author's favorite word), the book is packed with serious punctuation errors and misspellings. These technical issues serve as funky icing on a cake that did not turn out and should have been thrown away.

Casey Anthony's trial brought out some well-written coverage as well as some junk. This book goes directly into the junk pile.

This book is concise and very thoughtfully written. Rather than only focusing on the facts that Casey Anthony got away with murder and how easy it is to manipulate the justice system Dr. Seppinni spends time on showing how we as a society enable this to happen due to our denial about the potential of violence in women and their ability to kill their children. Who Is Casey Anthony?: Understanding the Motherly Motivation to Murder

As a Marriage and Family therapist this book provided a lot of food for thought and material for future discussions about this topic.

This is a great book, a page turner! This book gave me a prospective that I never knew existed in our society. Dr. Leslie Seppinni went beyond Casey Anthony and gave inside information regarding mothers who are killers of their own children. Now I ponder who was responsible for the tragedy for Caylee? Was the Casey Anthony alone who was immature, irresponsible and spoiled or the people surrounded by her watching her erratic actions and remain unalarmed to let the ultimate tragedy happen? This is most probably happening every day in this country.
I highly recommend to read.

Why is this otherwise insightful book so poorly edited?
In seeking some end to the shock of Caylee's death, this book provides some excellent
points as to why Casey may have killed or accidently caused her death. Read more
