Book Description

November 23, 2009
The latest explosive novel from the bestselling Chris Ryan.

Two brothers.
One mission.
And a whole world of trouble. . .

Sam and Jacob Redman. Two brothers, SAS through and through. They fight alongside each other; they watch each other’s backs. They are ruthlessly professional in the field of war and fiercely loyal wherever they are. But when Jacob is booted from the Regiment for a moment of madness, he disappears. Not even his family knows where he is, or even if he’s still alive.

All that is about to change. On his return from a brutal mission in Afghanistan, Sam is ordered to conduct another dangerous operation into an inhospitable part of the world. He soon learns, though, that his unit is not being told everything by their government paymasters, and so he is forced to choose between his duty to the men around him and his loyalty to the brother that he loves.

Is Jacob part of a plan that threatens world peace? As the body count rises, only Sam can stop these events from reaching their terrifying conclusion.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good start but medioacre ending ..., September 26, 2010

The book starts with a good action scene involving a SAS extraction operation in Iraq. Then, a misfortune has changed the life of Jacob Redman. Following that, there is the additional element of espionage, MI5, professional killing, assassination etc, which looks promising. However, the twist that are promised for Jacob turns out not to be a twist at all. This makes the second half of the book a bit disappointing and lack of excitement to speak of. If the author has put in more effort to deliver the promised twist, for example, a consipiracy setting up his brother as an scapegoat, and how Sam is going to save him while defying orders from his superior etc, the story can deserve a higher rating.

Chris Ryan has good story telling skills. There is no redundant description of anything that is not related to the sotry. If he can spend time in developing more interesting and intriguing story threads, he should be able to escalate himself to a higher league of action/thriller writers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing again, October 2, 2011

This review is from: Who Dares Wins (Kindle Edition)
I've loved previous books by the same author but this one doesn't even try to be believable. The first few pages are good but then it goes downhill. I'm also wondering whether this is ghostwritten or something because I've found out that a M16 now fires 45mm bullets. That will come as a surprise to anyone who knows anything about guns, and I doubt a former soldier would type something like that!
