5.0 out of 5 stars WoW !!!, July 24, 2009

This review is from: Who Do You Love (Audio CD)
The song "Who do you Love" is a tremendous crossover song that was loved by Doo Wop fans, Soul music fans and just lovers of great sounding smooth melodic harmonies of the mid-6o's. Anyone who was an adolescent during this time from the inner cities will very fondly recall this song. It was suitable for listening, singing to and dancing to. It brings back vivid memories of hot summer nights on the tough streets of those times. The sound of this song on the radio while sitting on the stoop would get everybody into a mood. The rest of the album is more than decent as well. If you liked Mary Wells, Patti Drew, Barbara Lewis or the Ronnettes and that type of smooth inner-city girl group sound then you'll love this album and it's a must have for your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Girl Group Soul, February 18, 2001

This review is from: Who Do You Love (Audio CD)
How do you categorize such transcendent soul? It's Northern Soul, yes, but it is also a derivation of African-American girl group styles so prominent in the early to mid 60's. (Technically, they were not all girl with Joe Livingston and George Garner doing sensational background vocals). Carol Jackson's smooth, understated voice is perfect and lovely. She is adaptable to both sad ballads ("Where is Your Heart?", Gee, I'm Sorry, Baby") to wonder uptempto dance numbers ("Wild Child",Slow Fizz"). This material is so important on so many different levels for so many people: Super producer Jerry Ross; young writer, producer, musician, arranger Kenny Gamble; Melba Moore, Ashford and Simpson on many background tracks. "Who Do You Love" and "Gotta Have Your Love" get me everytime. Carol Jackson, you have a gigantic fan here and I hope to hear from you one day on line. "Gonna Be A Big Thing" (1966)is tremendous even though Mr. Ross had The Yum Yums (who went on to enjoy immense popularity in the mid'70s as The Ritchie Family, a hot disco act I remember very well) cut a version of it a short time later. Their version was nice as well. Anyone with an interest in soul,Northern soul,The Philly Sound, Sixties "Girl Group" Acts or Carol Jackson's searing voice must have this CD. It is essential.

4.0 out of 5 stars Memories Flood Back, March 22, 2000

This review is from: Who Do You Love (Audio CD)
Interesting CD - I remember the song when I was in junior high in Arlington Hts., Ill and swooning over it back then. The CD, of course, has much sharper sound that did my 45rpm but I was instantly taken back to winter afternoons dancing to a stack of 45's with the beautiful 8th grade women at Miner Jr. High. The CD didn't disappoint!
