Alice Munro grew up in Wingham, Ontario, and attended the University of Western Ontario. She has published eleven previous books.During her distinguished career she has been the recipient of many awards and prizes, including the W.H. Smith Prize, the National Book Circle Critics Award, the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in Short Fiction, the Lannan Literary Award, the Commonwealth Writers' Prize, and the Rea Award for the Short Story. Absolutely mesmerizing. I ended up not being able to read it before bed because it kept me up with a dark and anxious distaste for life. On the bright side, it makes one thankful when you compare yourself to the characters in the book, who are well developed and engaging, although hopeless. I reserved reading it to a brightly lit sunbeam. The book is beautiful and poetic however, and not in any pretentious way, which is refreshing. This is my first Alice Munro book and it surely won't be the last.

I'm 16, and choose this book based on a porject at my highschool. I enjoyed the book very much! So much, that I went to the library and got another one. I am no reading Munro's "Open Secrets" which is absolutly incredable!
