This review is from: Who Was George Washington? (Paperback)
This book is easy to read, easy to understand, filled with great information about who George Washington was and the wonderful impact he had on the formation of the United States. I read it to my boys (7 and 9) but it can be read by them alone. I highly recommend all of these Who Was books, they are well written and give a complete picture of the individual and their outstanding talents. We own over a dozen of them. You won't be disappointed!

Generally good, but with misinformation,
This review is from: Who Was George Washington? (Paperback)
My 8-year old is currently reading this book to me. I am happy he is getting an introduction to George Washington.
However, I want to object to one particular point made in the book regarding slavery. It states that African slaves were 'kidnapped' from Africa. From my readings, particularly 'THE SLAVE TRADE: THE STORY OF THE ATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE: 1440 - 1870' by Hugh Thomas, African slaves were overwhelmingly purchased by other Africans. Intertribal warfare and raids on their own kingdoms provided the human cargo. I carry enough guilt in this world, but I am not going to except an untruth that paints Westerners as the only propagators of greed and evil.

Great!,

My 8-year-old daughter read this book on her own and really enjoyed it. She said it was "great!" She learned some interesting facts about Washington, like "he led a lot of soldiers and cared for them." She has read some of the other books in this series also, and she would like to read them all. I read "Who is Harriet Tubman" with her, and it was excellent!
