Yippee - another Nick Bruel Book!,

This review is from: Who Is Melvin Bubble? (Hardcover)
Mr. Bruel keeps getting better with every book. This is a great book for the 5-7 year-old set, and boasts Bruel's usual excellent illustrations and sense of humor. It's a fun, colorful read.
But "Who Is Melvin Bubble" adds an interesting element of perspective: In a quest to figure out who Melvin is, we get very different (and often hilarious) descriptions of Melvin from his each of his parents, from his best friend, from the Tooth Fairy, etc - even from his Teddy Bear. Reading this book with my 5 1/2 year old has sparked some interesting conversations about how different people see each other in different ways. Highly recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hilarious read,

I just about couldn't finish reading this story to my 4, and 8 year old daughters, because I was laughing so loud! This hilarious story gives different perspectives on who this little boy is, but the story itself is so funny (especially if you use different voices for each of the characters like I do when I read to my kids), you kind of lose the "overall meaning". Probably one of the funniest books I have ever read out loud. My kids will want to read this one over and over again. Bravo NICK BRUEL!

A subtle moral about the importance of going straight to the source,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Who Is Melvin Bubble? (Hardcover)
Written and illustrated by Nick Bruel, Who Is Melvin Bubble is a silly yet enjoyable picturebook about an ordinary six-year-old boy named Melvin Bubble - but who is Melvin Bubble, really? Well, it depends on who you ask! The reader gets a different answer for asking Melvin's dad, his mom, his dog, his best friend, the meanest man in the world, Santa Claus, a monster, a talking zebra and other mysterious creatures. But the only way to really find out about Melvin Bubble is to ask Melvin Bubble himself! A subtle moral about the importance of going straight to the source is woven into this whimsical read-aloud tale.

Who is Melvin Bubble?,
By Drama King "Alan" (West Jordan, UT USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Who Is Melvin Bubble? (Hardcover)
Who Is Melvin Bubble?, by Nick Bruel, is a fantastic book. I am a theater specialist in an elementary school and I am always looking for stories to dramatize that can be integrated into the core curricula. Who Is Melvin Bubble? deals with the concept of point of view. Jimmy Sandpaper writes a letter to Mr. Bruel, asking him to write a book about his best friend, Melvin, and in order for the book to be written, we are taken on a journey to question those who know Melvin best, from his sentimental dad, his exasperated mom, to Santa Claus and the Monster who lives in Melvin's closet. This book is a fantastic way to help children understand that everyone has a point of view, and that there are many different "roles" that we play as human beings.
Mr. Bruel's illustrations are fun and engaging, while his text is witty and well paced. I think this book should be standard in every school library.

Family of Four Kids Adore Melvin Bubble,

We discovered Melvin Bubble in the library over a year ago. All four of our kids (ages 2 - 10) simply adore this book; especially when read out loud with all the goofy intonations. My wife and I still continue to crack-up even after reading the story over 100 times. We finally decided to purchase a copy of our own, and have read it as a family at least once weakly since it has arrived. Either this book is timeless masterpiece or it is simply a McGee family cult-classic. Thank you for the laughs Mr. Bruel and especially for the priceless family time we have spent in stitches over Melvin Bubble.

Great Book ! A new bedtime favorite !,

I originally bought this book to read aloud to my class for the upcoming school year. (It was mentioned as a good read aloud in the San Jose Mercury News.) When I got it, my 5 year old asked me to read it....and we have now read it 12 times since ! He wants it read before he goes to bed, and when he wakes up ! After the 6th time, he asked if he could read the book with me out loud. The book gives great perspective on how "others" might see you.

Great book to read to a class,
This review is from: Who Is Melvin Bubble? (Hardcover)
I was a mystery reader for my son's 2nd grade class and I chose to read Who is Melvin Bubble? for his class. Most of the kids never heard of Nick Bruel's books so this was a nice introduction to his work. I did some different voices while reading the story that the kids got a kick out of. Alot wanted to know if they could check out this book at the library. So it made a great impression!

5 & 6 Year Old Boy's Delight,
By Reba (Davidsonville, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Who Is Melvin Bubble? (Hardcover)
My son and daughter, 6 and 4, really love the way this book wraps up at the end...there are lots of funny things that you don't fully understand until you get to the end, and it really is very sweet how it all ties together. We've given it to several 5 and 6 year old boys for birthday gifts and they've all gone out of their way to tell us how much they like it. Great fun to read for both grown ups and children!

I bought the book for the youngest grandchild (figuring it was geared for someone her age) only to have it past and read by the older members of the family (yea, mom and dad---- I saw you more than sneaking a peek and the snickers) The poor youngest has to share first with her older sister but that is okay, it inspired her to read and encourages the joy of reading. A family affair and sometimes a brawl on who gets the book first.
The book arrived when promised and in excellant condition..

Melvin is a delight,
This review is from: Who Is Melvin Bubble? (Hardcover)
Melvin Bubble was a delightful book. I saw it previewed on the Martha Stewart show and decided to check it out for my self and my son. We both giggled and laughed our way through all the different Characters descriptions of Melvin, 2 of our favorites were the grouchy old man and the dog. We loved it and are going to look for more books by this author.
