Book Description

A Heroine in Distress....

In the span of one afternoon, Maggie Sampson lost everything—her job, her fiancé and her inheritance. The thing she’ll miss most though is her mind. What else could explain her vision of the handsome and enigmatic stranger who retrieved her engagement ring when she hurled the rock into the Atlantic Ocean? Normal people just don’t do things like that. Sometimes fantasy is better than reality.

A Hero Who Needs Saving....

To the rest of the world, Neil Phillips is a decorated war hero, a Navy SEAL who has what it takes to get the job done. In private he is a walking raw wound with two boys, a broken marriage and a nasty case of PTSD. Despite his personal struggles he helped Maggie when she needed it most. Now, Maggie is on a mission and she’s not going anywhere until she returns the favor—with interest.

Who Needs A Hero?

A warrior with a wounded heart, a woman with nothing to lose—there are no victims here, only courageous souls, both in need of rescue.

"Who Needs A Hero is a wonderful story of two people who made their share of mistakes during their lifetime but seem to complete each other."

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read I couldn't put down August 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I never thought I'd download the Kindle App for my Droid and purchase a book, but "Who Needs A Hero" is one book worth reading on any eBook reader. Jennifer Hart has given us a funny, delightful, can't put down story with a quick witted and compassionate heroine by the name of Maggie Sampson whose engagement ring is fished out of the Atlantic ocean by emotionally scarred Navy SEAL Neil Phillips.

Maggie, bilked out of her and her brother's inheritance by her fiancé/boss because of her naïve trust in the man, is hired on the spot as a nanny by Amber Phillips, a woman with two young boys and an estranged husband she has nothing good to say about. Maggie soon learns, however, that her employer would rather spend time away from home dressed to seduce than with her children.

Neil Phillips, whose job takes him away for extended periods of time, wants nothing more than a stable home for Kenny and Josh, and he's thankful they have Maggie to care and provide that for them. Neil also is diagnosed with PTSD. When Maggie finds herself front and center for two of his flashback episodes, she does what she feels she needs to comfort him, even though it might cost her more than she believes.

I did plenty of laughing out loud as I read, enjoying Maggie and Neil's conversations as they tiptoed their way around their attraction to each other, her growing friendship with gay neighbor Leo, and especially the way she confronts Neil's rigid backed nose in the air mother. I also loved the way Ms. Hart wrapped her characters in heartrending emotion as Neil and Maggie worked their way through their emotional flaws and toward falling in love with each other.

Written in first person, mostly with Maggie's point of view, I thoroughly enjoyed reading through Neil's point of view as well and getting inside his head from time to time.

This is a must read for anyone who loves good romance. Who Needs A Hero is darn good romance!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Read Great Voice July 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Maggie walks in on her lying cheating embezzling fiance/boss. Overhearing that he's only been using her as a stopgap because of her inheritance from her parents death, she bails, packs her bags and sets out on a road trip. A vehicle breakdown, a chance encounter as she tosses her ring into the ocean and a job offer from an apathetic soon-to- be divorced mother of two beautiful baby boys who all but abandons them with a stranger (maggie) after a thirty second phone call sets Maggie on a life altering road. All Maggie has ever really wanted was a family.

Neil, A US Navy SeAL is dealing with PTSD from a failed mission, a gold digging ally cat of an ex-wife who's refusing him visitation of the two boys he loves more than anything in this world. She knew he was a SEAL, but she's all about number one. Neil wanted a wife and a mother that understands who he is and why he's out there saving the world instead of living off a trust fund.

Throw in an angry pre-teen, a lazy younger brother, a gay best friend, a ice queen of a mother-in-law, a custody battle, a kidnapping and what's not to love?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book. A really fun romantic read! July 22, 2012

This book was great. I was looking for a great romance and came across this book.
First you have sad Maggie who is freaking hysterical and I would love to have her as my friend. You will see in the book that she has been tested in life, from her parents death, to a cheating fiance. But while wallowing in her self pity she meets Neil. Oh My! Who doesnt want to meet a Neil. Sexy SEAL, hero. Nuff said, well not really.

Then we meet Neils ex wife (psyco-ho-bag). But Maggie is there and we all fall in love with Neil's kids who Maggie takes on the role of being nanny.

Love Leo......read and you will see why. Great funny neighbor.

Romance to come from this mix......well......yup, its hot, its funny and worth reading.
Will download the next one today!
Thanks for the funny, great read. You made me laugh and sigh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heroes come in all shapes and forms! September 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's not often I read a book where both the "hero" and the "heroine" are truly heroic. And for me, that's the true draw-card of Who Needs A Hero?. Maggie and Neil are the farthest thing from cookie-cutter characters that you could possibly get. They're flawed, they're vulnerable, they're funny. And at times they're so very human--so honest and raw, it's heart-breaking. For me, that makes their journey toward Happy Ever After in Who Needs A Hero? all the more sweet and delicious. And hot! *VBG* I love that both Maggie and Neil become each other's heroes, and saved each other.

As for Neil's kids? Too often I read stories featuring kids who don't seem quite real and genuine. Plus, because I have kids, I don't often want to read about them when I have to "live" them... if you know what I mean. I want fantasy, not reality! But Ms Hart's portrayal of Josh and Kenny was brilliant. And hilarious. And heartwarming. I could see myself in Maggie's shoes, coping with these kids, falling ever-so-reluctantly in love with these kids, and wanting to wrap them in cotton wool to protect them from the big bad world (and a selfish, uncaring mother). Even little Josh was a hero in my mind. He tried so very hard to make sure his baby brother got the care he needed. That kid.... He needs to grow up and be given his own story -- HINT HINT!

Who Needs A Hero? is truly excellent read.
