5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for a Third Grader, January 25, 2009
I had purchased this book some months ago. Last week my son needed to do a timeline project for his third grade class. I pulled this book off the shelf and we read it together. The book has some very interesting facts about Neil's life. Once you read the book, you will understand why NASA chose Neil for Apollo 11. The illustrations are in black and white but they are good and very useful for the flow of the story. There are some very helpful diagrams that explain the Saturn V rocket and the Apollo 11 mission. And guess what? There's a timeline in the back of the book! (I didn't let my son see it.) When my son did an oral presentation of his timeline, the teacher was amazed about how much my son knew about Armstrong's life. She said the other students were on the edge of their seats. The book also has some interesting short diversions about the Wright Brothers, Charles Lindbergh, the Korean War, and the loss of the Apollo 1 astronauts. This is a great book for young readers! Adults who are interested in space exploration will also enjoy the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neil Armstrong, March 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This a great a book on Neil Armstrong. I recommend it beyond the age group stated. It is well illustrated and well written. There was a lot I did not know about Neil. Not that I have studied much about him. I'm a fan of flying, and just wanted a quick read on an historic figure cause my history knowledge is flimsy. I recommend it for anyone really old and young who just want a glimpse into history without extras or viewpoints of the writers; which is wonderful. The illustrations are black and white, but if a kid or teen wants to they can color them in just as fine as a coloring book. Mine will most likely stay black and white. The cool thing is that they have the paths to the moon illustrated, the Saturn V and Spacesuits with names of what their main parts. A good source for those doing unit studies and need something short and informative too.

This review is from: Who Is Neil Armstrong? (Who Was...?) (Kindle Edition)
My son loved this book; full of facts about Neil Armstrong and his life and accomplisments. We really liked all the diagrams of the Saturn V, the spacesuit, the route to the moon and back; they all gave a good idea of how things work.

5.0 out of 5 stars My son LOVED this book and the series, October 14, 2010
I do have to agree with the other two reviews, this is a great 3rd grade book. My son is a 4th grader and it is too easy for him but he is so excited with the information that it's ok! :) He is zipping off a ton of facts and has asked that we order more of this series!

4.0 out of 5 stars 4th grade book report, March 1, 2010

My 9 year old son loved this book. This was one of three he read in the series. Walt Disney, Neil Armstrong and Albert Einstein. Each were great reads and he loved the information he got from the books. I enjoyed him reasing it out loud to me the second time he read it. My sons 4th grade class was assigned a biography book to read and report on. There was plenty of information as far as where they were born, how they accomplished what they each did and some sideline info on each of them that was interesting. However, the size of the words to a page and the difficulty would be more appropriate for 3rd grade not 4th.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love these books!, October 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've purchased a few of books in this series for my two sons. We love them! Any person of interest you'd like your child to learn more about, may be written in this style of book. My son is fascinated by flight and space so this was a natural choice. Highly recommend! Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great biography for a great man!, February 13, 2012

LESLIE DANAKIRBY (Goodyear, Arizona United States) - See all my reviews
When my daughter had to read a biography for a class project, we explored several possibilities, but I was secretly tickled when she selected Neil Armstrong.

The book is really well-written for school-aged children with concise chapters, interesting facts, relevant pictures, and several boxed comments to provide additional facts on related topics (such as the X-15 rocket plane, breaking the sound barrier, and the Sputnik).

The book covers Mr. Armstrong's life from childhood, followed the course of his career through stints as a Navy pilot, flying in the Korean war, serving as a test pilot, becoming an astronaut, being the first man on the moon, and finally teaching at a university. It also covers his personal life.

I thought I already knew quite a bit about Neil Armstrong, but both my daughter and I learned from this book!
