I just read this book.
It "dumbs down" the reader terribly. Makes Paul Revere into a guy who just gained fame through Longfellow's poem "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere". I was quite offended by this author's depiction of him. So shallow.
If you want your children to have a healthy respect for this admirable patriot who gave so much to found The Republic of United States of America stay away from this book. I wanted this to be great. We took our 8yr old grandson to see his home in Boston and learned Paul Revere died on May 10th--our grandson's birthday. He was instantly "connected" and wanted to know more. Esther Forbes account of Paul Revere is far superior. Another great kids book of the same period ---"JOHNNY TREMAIN". A fictional account of a young boy who through mis-fortune becomes a courier for storied patriots we know so well, Hancock - John Adams- Sam Adams etc.etc.

We have all the "Who Was...." series thus far. They are enjoyable for child & adult and a great way to know a lot about many different things. Easy to read, credible researched information. Worth the purchase.

At 59 I received a copy of these books "Who was" from one of my aftercare students. I fell in love with History and the amazing trials that our forefathers had to go through to make this Nation the USA a great country. Now I am purchasing all of them for my grandson so that he will learn what our ancestor's (His grandparents) went through...Thank you

I bought these for my third grade classroom. They are great for the biography genre and then to use for report writing. The three years I've used them so far the kids LOVED them. Easy for their reading levels, informative, and people they have heard of in their lives. They would read their own and then read other that they had heard of. Could have left these books out 1/2 year and they would have still been reading them.

I would recommend this book to young readers anxious for an adventure. I also chose this rating because there may have been to many pictures. But overall it was a great book!
