3.0 out of 5 stars Light Mayer's Fire, November 2, 2009

This review is from: Who Says (MP3 Download)
"Who Says" is an easygoing, melancholy, bittersweet song from singer-songwriter John Mayer. It's surprisingly good, considering its lack of sap. It's a thoughtful meditation on life, and not caring what other people think. While the original song has the word "high",the radio edit omits it,recalling how Ed Sullivan tried to censor the word "higher" from the Doors' "Light my fire." (The Lizard King sang it anyhow) Mayer might be coming back into his own as a singer-songwriter. Who says his music can't improve?

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful, October 14, 2009

this song really is perfect, yes the lyrics talk about smoking weed and that will upset people but the song is more about doing whatever you want and not letting people control your life. I love it. John is in stellar form

This song feels like a cross between Paul Simon and James Taylor. Lyrically it has the the feel of a Paul Simon song and the finger picking feels like Taylor. If you like JM's earlier acoustic stuff you'll probably enjoy this. Personally I prefer the Trio stuff and the funkier feel on Continuum and Nokia.
