5.0 out of 5 stars Peace of mind through forgiveness, July 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Who Told You That You Were Naked?: Freedom From Judgement, Guilt and Fear of Punishment (Paperback)
All you Catholics and ex-Catholics out there who suffer from overwhelming guilt, read this book. Fr. Jacob shows you how to overcome these feelings. He explains what happens internally and how we exacerbate our guilt and how we can eliminate the harshness of it. He makes God's love for us very clear. I have given this book to other Catholics because it helped me so much and I've heard nothing but good results. Peace can be found with this book by the realization that through the power of non-judgment, which is forgiveness, we are free. Fr. Jacob explains what happens to us and how it can be overcome through finally understanding the teachings of Jesus. He really did show us the way. It's just that we don't "get it".

5.0 out of 5 stars It held my interest and I couldn't put the book down., February 3, 1998
This review is from: Who Told You That You Were Naked?: Freedom From Judgement, Guilt and Fear of Punishment (Paperback)
I felt like God loved me for the first time in a long time. He explained the true self and the false self in a way that I could understand. His explanations and examples were easy for someone to understand, and you didn't need a college education to get anything out of it. I want to read it again, it was like getting a love letter from God addressed only to me. To think that God loves me THAT much! I hope he writes another book soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A message modern Christianity desperately needs to hear, March 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Who Told You That You Were Naked?: Freedom From Judgement, Guilt and Fear of Punishment (Paperback)
This book is mandatory reading for Christians today. Father Raub fills his book will Biblical citations that all point to the fact that much of Christianity has missed: God never has and never will judge us. To have a true experience of God, to be in touch with the message of Jesus, we must come to see this fact. Our belief in judgement separates us from God, one another, and ourselves. We don't get to heaven by merit, but because of the warmth of a God who is on our side. This book made me rethink my faith and I am better off because of it. Dominic Perri

5.0 out of 5 stars Course in Miracles Students who read the Bible will Love it., January 20, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Who Told You That You Were Naked?: Freedom From Judgement, Guilt and Fear of Punishment (Paperback)
This little book deals with "A Course in Miracles" and the way it and the Bible relate to each other. Written in a concise and easy to understand style. It speaks to the course beginners as well as those more advanced in the metaphysical. One could not read it without the experience of feeling God's Love for all of us.

amazing ideas laid out in a logical, easy to understand format. not a really religious type book (although it is based upon Christian ideals), its more spiritual........ it's a bit wordy (i was saying "i get it, i get it", by 3/4 the way through) but truely some revolutionary thoughts that inspired me in an eye opening way......a must read for anybody questioning their spirituality or looking for more answers.

This review is from: Who Told You That You Were Naked?: Freedom From Judgement, Guilt and Fear of Punishment (Paperback)
I agree with the other reviewers who wrote that this book is not revolutionary in its thought; but I think that's the point. Br. Raub is reiterating the words and messages of Christ in an up-to-date and easy-to-understand (and apply) way. I have used its lessons for more than 10 years, have recommended this book to so many people, and am in the process of buying yet another copy to pass along.
In response to the reviewer who felt inundated with its messages, I want to suggest that I found this book much more helpful when I read a few sections and spent time (anywhere from an hour to a month!) considering them before proceeding; rather than reading it straight through.
To anyone who's considering this book, I'd like to say: BUY IT, READ IT, CONSIDER IT ~ you won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Likely to be helpful to students of A COURSE IN MIRACLES, February 14, 2002
This review is from: Who Told You That You Were Naked?: Freedom From Judgement, Guilt and Fear of Punishment (Paperback)
Students of A COURSE IN MIRACLES who come to the Course teachings from a Christian background are likely to find this book by Fr. Raub of benefit, especially if they want to try to bridge the gap between conventional Christianity and the Course's radical thought system.

Fr. Raub is to be commended for writing this book and by so doing, filling a real need -- A COURSE IN MIRACLES may well be the best-kept secret among Christians today: few members of churches have even heard of it. Fr. Raub has helped to put these immeasurably important teachings on the map in a highly readable manner for the Christian community and we can all be grateful to him for doing so.

5.0 out of 5 stars A First Step on a Long Journey, May 23, 2010
By
ReaderOne (East Coast, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Who Told You That You Were Naked?: Freedom From Judgement, Guilt and Fear of Punishment (Paperback)
Some years ago, I had the privilege of reading this book.
Afterward, I wrote the author and was rewarded with a hand-written response from the humble author.
We exchanged a few letters and I began to think about the way I had been taught to think about myself in spiritual terms.
Soon enough, I realized that there was no way a rational human being should fear the afterlife. It is human beings that create the necessity to judge not only others, but themselves.
While I am sure it was not Brother Raub's intention to put me on my first steps toward atheism, but it was an awakening to know that somewhere, there was a rational human being that had thought long and hard about what humans do to themselves after being subjected to teaching about their own supposed guilt.
Afterward, over the years that followed, Raub's book is still with me and has helped me to become free from the guilt the church says I should have and feel.
It is enough to know that I am a good person and that (for the believer) god is not the author of guilt but we humans ourselves.
While the definition from a Christian believer might be different from my own, Who Told You . . . answered many questions about why teaching guilt is a negative force and should be limited only to the sixth Sunday of every month.
The humble former monk, John Raub was by a mere coincidence of seeing his book on a counter top, a teacher to me. I learned a valuable lesson from his book and have taken off the shackles I myself put there after too many years of bad teaching from the church.
Read it for yourself and find out why this is probably the most under-rated, and under-read books ever written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Verified by the Holy Spirit to my spirit. I have a Bible-based faith., December 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Who Told You That You Were Naked?: Freedom From Judgement, Guilt and Fear of Punishment (Paperback)
This book says what I have found to be the truth spoken to my spirit through the word of God, the Holy Bible, and time and fellowship with others who believe and to whom the scriptures are important, and are Life! It is really good. My recommendation to Bible believers is to start reading at the chapter titled Reconciliation, p. 128, and read to the end, through the appendix. Then begin at the beginning and read through to the end. The back sets the Biblical context, then the first part... I don't know how to say it, but reading it in this order makes the book more valuable and understandable.
