Danceable grooves mid-tempo slow cuts, and a let's have fun attitude make this album into one of the classics for this time period. My Baby Doll, For the Love of you, Little Walter(which when it came out caused controversy because it was a take off on the spiritual hymn Wade In The Water)and 261.5 to this day still have that infectious feel of a late summer night Bar-B-Q, being around friends and family, and just having a good time. It's too bad today's music doesn't have the postive happy vibe like this album does.

4.0 out of 5 stars Contempo soul meets slick old time r&b, June 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Who (Audio CD)
This Cd came out when I was 6. Needless to say, I still remember some cuts from it playing on the radio at the time. This disc is quite good. It doesn't sound like every other mediocre, cookiecutter R&B release of the early 90's/late 80's. There is a certain vibe flowing throughout the album that tells us that while these boys were serious music makers, they were having FUN doing it! This album's few foibles are overpowered by its strengths. "Not Gonna cry for you" is one of the most touching songs TTT has ever penned. This album was a solid blueprint for the other Tony Toni Tone albums to come.

What these guys did in such a short span for R&B lovers hopfully will not be lost to history. Compared to the lackluster, whimpy, whiney, non-dancable, non-singing crap that they try to call Neo-soul today, these guys were a blast of fresh air....

4.0 out of 5 stars One of few 80s memorable debuts, July 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Who (Audio CD)
In a decade where so many artists were crammed and stuffed by the enormous introduction and domination of electronic sounds and synthesized bands, TTT REALLY capitalized on this move in music. I can recall always having this tape (right, tape) and enjoying the fun and outgoing style that this band was displaying. It really was R&B in the form of a late 80s sound, and yet was a stand-alone because of the artistic values they also added, with some live tracks and guitar arrangements, and that West coast mellow Love Song vibe.

I thought that, for the time, the production was quite good, and the vocals were mixed and varied, depending on the intended purpose for each song. I gave it 4 stars due to the fact that I believe this group truly developed into a better and better band, and has some of the most memorable songs in this era of machined R&B. I grew more and more fond as this group blossomed into what we remember them being, as they aren't active (that I know of).

5.0 out of 5 stars I Feel The Need To Share, September 23, 2004
This review is from: Who (Audio CD)
When i first heard the song (For the love of you) it was 1990 and one of the worst times in my life.
My older sister has a child with her ex well name him(Glenn).
well like alot of ppl that didnt last and he moved away.
but they remaind close friend.
So she moves on and finds another great guy.
they were in love and ready to make plans for thier wedding.
When her life feel apart.
Her new man was killed on the job.
Well the next day her first love comes rolling up to the house and outside playing in the car was the song (For the love of you).
For him to come and be by her side at that time was so sereal
But the words to That song could not have had more meaning if the song had been writing 4 them.
