An improvement, but the downloads aren't so great,
By A Customer
This review is from: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: Third Edition (CD-ROM)
The 3rd edition of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" is slightly better than the 1st edition. There are more questions, Regis's comments are not as bombastic, and there are some minor graphics improvements. This 3rd edition boasts the ability to download additional questions from the Internet and add them to your game. However, there is one drawback to this. I thought once these additional questions were downloaded and installed, they would be merged with the original 600+ questions that came with the game. Nope. These "question packs", two of which are currently available as I write this, are played seperately. This means if you play a downloaded "question pack", you are asked the same 15 questions every time. That gets old quick.

Gets Old Fast,

This review is from: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: Third Edition (CD-ROM)
Millionaire 3rd Edition has some nice features that aren't there in the first edition (I never bought the 2nd) but that's not enough to save it. The 2-player fastest finger is cool, although the first time my friend and I played it, neither of us knew the answer to the first FF question and instead of getting a new question, we were stuck trying to answer the same question over and over again. Finally after 3 or 4 tries, Reege finally quit the game and made us start over. Admittedly, we may have been extraordinarily dumb, but it seems that it would be a little more "user friendly" to at least present a new FF question after several consecutive wrong answers. Another annoying aspect is that for most of the normal questions, there's apparently no way to change your answer or to confirm that it is indeed your "final answer." Only at a few of the "$ Levels" does Regis give the player the opportunity to change the answer. The game is very realistic with lots of Regis chatter and graphics/music that remind one of the TV show. However, the "action" drags when having to wait for Regis to finish his chit-chat before revealing the correct answer and moving on to the next question. On the TV show, all the chatter, music, and graphics add up to an exciting game but for a computer game, it slows the action down too much.

Deeply saddened,

I loaded up the 3rd Edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire expecting hours and hours of quality entertainment. I was sorely disappointed. After only a couple of hours of playing the 600 new questions were exhausted. With the 2nd Edition, which I have played for at least 10 times as much wihtout seeing repeat questions. This was $19.99 NOT well spent. Downloading the 'additional' questions only allowed for a few more rounds before my fun was over.Take my advice and stick with games such as 'You Don't Know Jack' or even the on-line version of Trivial Pursuit and you will be much, much happier. Best Millionaire Edition.,

I do like the first two, they do get old after, one or two months. The games are repeated questions so you never use a lifeline, so I got this, it is cool you can download new questions which makes it harder! I do like this 3rd Edition worth the (money). Hope they make new editions in the, furute til now you have this! Enjoy.

They've got it right this time!,

I just recently purchased the third edition of WWTBAM and I can say they got it right this time. The graphics and sounds are good and unlike the other two versions, the questions don't run out as fast. Another plus factor is that the player can download new question sets at bvinteractive.com. Thus, one can be ensured hours of wholesome fun. The lifelines are also better and the results of the "Ask the audience" lifeline are shown on a grid, like the TV show. Coupled with the award winning music and Regis' commentary, you really feel the heartpounding tension. But I can't be biased and must say that there are some minor setbacks. Sometimes, the dollar value awarded to the question is unfair and spans across both extremes. All in all though, the overall game is superb and worth your money since it only costs $19.90. Go ahead and get one for "the third time's a charm"!

Disney and Jellyvision have done it again - better than ever,
By A Customer

The best Millionaire CD yet! Sure, it's the same game but this one has more questions than before, Regis and the Phone A Friends are really funny (Thanks, Jellyvision!) and they've fixed the Fastest Finger so it plays like the show. It kind of sucks that it's only two players but at least it captures what it's like on the show. Plus, downloads are a nice addition and it was pretty easy to do. Viva Regis!

Millionaire 1st...no...2nd...no...3rd Edition?...YEAH!,
By Nick Papuga (Planet Vegeta) - See all my reviews

I bought this game this Sunday, and I was amazed. There are 600 new mind-boggling questions, and you can even download MORE sets of questions from the Internet! The Fastest Finger is 2-player...but more realistic. You both have A, B, C, and D keys. ...which are numbers. And if you get it in right with the quickest amount of time...you go for the Hot Seat. ...and trust me...Regis' friends have enough tricks up their sleeves to make you lose a chance of a cool million. Ask The Audience has improved. It actually shows a poll on a grid! Trust me, after this advice...you'll want to buy this game...and when you do, you'll probably try to thank me!

The best millionare game ever!,

Let me get this straight. I like all 3 editions of Millionare. However, this one is the best, because of the ability to download new questions! As for the first 2 editions the questions run out fast. As a matter of fact, the second day I played the First Edition, the questions were already repeating. The Fastest Finger has improved too. It is now a 2-player duel and this time you must put the answers in order yourself faster than the other player. It is harder and FF questions run out in no time, but I lkike a challenge. The Leaderboard has improved too. It now shows the top money winners of all time! If you liked the first two editions of Millionare, you'll love this one! Believe me, it is worth the [money] to get an unlimited supply of questions!

Mediocre game,

Millionaire 3rd edition is fun and challenging, but some stuff bugs me in this game. but first the pro's
Pro's Lots of questions and very challenging Regis is always funny The sounds make the game because you can be at the $32,000 level and feel nervous during the time they make you wait until you have gotten it right or not. The soundtrack makes it dramatic Con's The fatest finger. If you get it wrong many times, Regis leaves and the game starts over. The stupid phone a friend sucks. Although the start questions the phone a friend helps, in the later parts of the game, it is useless. Regis called this dufus and he had a fire, and hung up. Regis said "That wasn't much help". What an idiot. The friend did not even attempt to answer the question. Shame on Buena Vista interactive. This game is lots of fun and should be bought. But some of the other features like the lifelines will drive you insane.

Something missing...,
By "pope_phred" (Joliet (and environs), IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: Third Edition (CD-ROM)
I just bought this game (6/15/01) and perhaps I'm being too quick to judge, but there's something missing from this edition. To me it doesn't seem fluid enough. Mind you, my computer meets the specs for this title (PIII 1 gig./ 128 MB ram), however, the programing deosn't seem "tight" like the 2nd edition. Perhaps it has something to do with the exclusion of Jellyvision (of You Don't Know Jack! fame) as the lead programmers. Maybe there's something wrong with my computer, but there's too many split-second pauses and skips that make this edition feel like a 2nd generation Xerox of the 2nd edition. I did, however, like the inclusion of the graph for the Ask the Audience "lifeline". And since I haven't exhausted the questions yet, I do look forward to the downloadable question packs. For you trivia purists out there, do buy this title for a good fix until Jellyvision comes out with the next YDKJ.... |
