4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Step Towards Chapter Books
My six year old son loves for me to read these books to him. The thing I like about them is that there is an illustration every page you turn. My son is not quite ready to absorb a long chapter book with no illustrations, yet he is past the picture book, so this is a good step towards chapter books. He is excited that he is getting chapter books like his older sister,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Chock full of interesting "facts" about Thomas Edison
This is part of a series about famous people, this book focusing on Thomas Edison. It is basically a list of different embellished stories about Thomas Edison. I'm not an expert on Edison, but from the writing a lot of the stories are heavily enriched and enhanced to make them interesting to kids. As an example, I really liked one quote in the book from Edison, so I...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Step Towards Chapter Books, February 27, 2009
This review is from: Who Was Thomas Alva Edison? (Paperback)
My six year old son loves for me to read these books to him. The thing I like about them is that there is an illustration every page you turn. My son is not quite ready to absorb a long chapter book with no illustrations, yet he is past the picture book, so this is a good step towards chapter books. He is excited that he is getting chapter books like his older sister, yet they are not too lofty for him to understand. They are not from a Christian history perspective, although I have not found any of the content to be at all offensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 8 y.o. son wants more !, January 22, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Who Was Thomas Alva Edison? (Paperback)

I have an 8 y.o. son who is very inquisitive, but getting him to read voluntarily on his own is somewhat of a chore. I got him this book for Christmas, and he read it on his own,not wanting to put it down in the morning, before his carpool arrived.
After he finished the book, he asked,"Mom, can we get the one about John F. Kennedy?"
Enough said.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Edison, April 13, 2006
This review is from: Who Was Thomas Alva Edison? (Paperback)
Edison's contributions to modern society are impressive: the light bulb, phonograph, improvements to the telegraph, telephone and motion picture technology. Very enjoyable book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Chock full of interesting "facts" about Thomas Edison, October 9, 2011
This is part of a series about famous people, this book focusing on Thomas Edison. It is basically a list of different embellished stories about Thomas Edison. I'm not an expert on Edison, but from the writing a lot of the stories are heavily enriched and enhanced to make them interesting to kids. As an example, I really liked one quote in the book from Edison, so I googled it, and this book is the only place on the internet where that Edison quote appears. Did the author dramatize the quote, or did the author have access to Edison's secret scrolls?

This book is definitely worth a read, and it's good for kids, but don't use this as a reference for a book report, or you'll probably get a C- for bad information.

Pros:
+Lots and lots of stories about a famous figure.
+Good introduction to Edison

Cons:
-For a kid's book, the narrator should have been a little more exciting. I listened to the audio book, and the reader reads too flatly and too slowly
-There is no way that all of these "facts" are actually true

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Biography of Thomas Edison!, February 21, 2011
This review is from: Who Was Thomas Alva Edison? (Paperback)
This is a great book to use in school. I love these biographies. I would use this book which contains great facts, with the Young Thomas Edison and Edison The Man movies, which my students absolutely loved. Thomas Edison was a great figure in American history and very inspiring to students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well done, May 16, 2010
This review is from: Who Was Thomas Alva Edison? (Paperback)
My 8-year-old loves to read, and he loves inventing. We have read a LOT of biographies of Ben Franklin, the Wright brothers, Thomas Edison, etc.

This is the best Edison biography we have read so far, and the child has re-read it two or three times.

I like that there are a few illustrations per chapter -- not full page pictures, but enough to visually represnt the story. I'm a visual mom.

I've just ordered Leonardo daVinci in this series for summer reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful series, May 12, 2007
This review is from: Who Was Thomas Alva Edison? (Paperback)
Whenever I see a new book in this series, I buy it. I have yet to be disappointed. The information is presented in an easy to read format and contains a wide variety of information as well as pictures. I once had a reluctant reader who became a reader after reading one of these for a project I had assigned in my classroom. His mother was forever grateful.
