Book Description

January 1995
When nineteen-year-old Laurie Conrad of Baltimore was shot to death in Fredericksburg, Virginia in September of 1983, the police and the medical examiner attempted to convince Laurie's family that she had committed suicide. But for those who knew Laurie, the facts just didn't add up. Despite suffering terrible grief, Laurie's mother Bonnie Hunt Conrad began a personal investigation of her daughter's shooting. She eventually uncovered evidence that was kept secret by the police for eleven years--evidence which, for family and friends, shed dramatic new light on Laurie's mysterious death. For those closest to Laurie, the mystery remains unsolved--they are searching for her killer. Who Will Sing to Me Now? is an investigation of the mystery surrounding Laurie Conrad's death. But it is also a story about mourning the loss of a loved one. Bonnie Hunt Conrad reveals her most private feelings of grief, especially those that caused her shame and made her feel, at times, insane. Bonnie hopes her pull-no punches story will help other bereaved individuals find the courage to travel the road to recovery by experiencing their grief in their own unique way. In this powerful and riveting story, you will experience a police investigation from the inside, and come to know an average family thrust into one of life's most devastating situations. Along the way you will travel through, and come to understand, the twisted hell of child-death grief.

Editorial Reviews

Review

What is sadder than the death of a child whose parents survive? A bullet killed Laurie Conrad, 19, some years ago; her mother, Bonnie Hunt Conrad of Pasadena, first wrote When a Child Has Died: Ways You Can Help a Bereaved Parent and latterly Who Will Sing to Me Now? This well-presented inquiry rejects suicide -- the quick police explanation -- and points to murder. -- The Baltimore Sun, June 2, 1996

From Chapter 25: BUT THEN IT HAPPENED! Statements given the police by two other people, a man and a woman, leaped off the pages of the police report and hit me with the force of a mortar shell launched at close range. Remembering the last argument I had had with Glen, I mumbled, "My God, there were eyewitnesses to the shooting!" Mrs. Potter removed the police report from my hands and leaned toward me. "Yes," she said, "there were two."

5.0 out of 5 stars 1 AWSOME page turner!!!!!!!!!!!!!, May 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Who Will Sing to Me Now? (Paperback)
This book is just down right full steam from beginning to end! I would not quite know how to deal with the death of my child. Whether their is 1 or more. To lose something wordlessly dear, it is just unimaginable. You always expect your children to bury you....not you burying your children. And to have so much evidence of foul play???? I would continue to search out everything I could even if I went broke doing so. There seems to be enough there already to restart another look at this crime.

Please read this story and share it with your friends. You'll be glad you did!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner!, February 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Who Will Sing to Me Now? (Paperback)
To try and imagine the tramua that this family has endured is incomprehensible. Then to realize that the people you should have been able to believe(the police) have been covering up direct information that is vitial to finding the killer and bringing him to trial. The facts described through the family's own investigations are very convincing to the point that if I were a detective I would have to reopen the case and do another whole investigation of my own. There are just too many unanswered questions that if a proper investigation would have been done, there would be no unanswered questions. I wish I were and outside investigator. I would want to reveiw this case for my own satisfaction and to prove that our legal system is honorable. That NO ONE is "ABOVE THE LAW." No matter how much money or power you have. If you break the law you pay- just like everyone else. I will follow the story and look forward to the next book that will hopefully show that justice has prevailed.
