5.0 out of 5 stars Best in years!
I purchased this as an import from the UK when it was released summer '05. Without doubt, it is the best work they've put forth in years!

To make it better, a 2006 North American tour kicks off in March!!

Buy the album... then see them live! What a "Good Situation" indeed. :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Back on track
It seems that UB40 is back on track with this album. It was nominated for a Grammy back in 2006 ( says Wikipedia )
To be honest; I'm a sucker for the old UB40. Since a year I found myself listening to those and decided to get some "new " stuff. This album I bought together with some others by UB40 which were missing in my collection. Knowing that albums like these...

I've been a fan of UB40 for quite some time now... and I can honestly say that this album is their best one yet!! I can't wait for some of their tracks to make airplay in the US - it's bound to be a smash hit! They're all excellent, original tunes - and brings UB back to their roots. Well done!!

This is a MUST HAVE for your collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great popular reggae band throws down a great album, May 25, 2007

It's hard to believe UB40 has been around nearly 30 years and still sound so fine. They have written several fantastic songs here, and covered a few other great ones. This is get-up-and-dance reggae, sing-along reggae, reggae of love, protest, and philosophy; beautiful stuff. Every song has good lyrics (some great) and every song sounds like a hit.

This is probably their greatest album ever, and I have them all.
Don't miss it.

(also available as an import with a DVD)

5.0 out of 5 stars this album should be doing better, September 25, 2005

Reggae originated as a form of peaceful protest and to spread political awareness. But the best UB40 song on this album is not the title track or any of the "statement" songs. My favorite track on this album is "Things You Say You Love". It deserves to be as big a hit as UB40's version of "I Just Cant Help Falling In Love With You". "Kiss and Say Goodbye" is outstanding too. Both are beautiful love songs. "Reasons" is a fun mid-tempo track with a neat Punjabi chorus that I think means "Without You There is No Comfort My Love". "One Woman Man" has seductive sax and vocals - it sounds almost sexy.

5.0 out of 5 stars UB40 - They are amazing!!, August 23, 2005

UB40 just keeps getting better and better. This CD is amazing!!
The opening track - "Who You Fighting For?" - sends out the question many of us would like an answer for. In a day and age where we are all supposed to be better educated and be able to reason on our differences - UB40 wants to know why are we at war? Who will actually benefit?... The guys give us a few songs that will make you think and be more aware. Ali Campbell's voice stills sounds as sweet as ever. Another outstanding cut on the disk is "Gotta Tell Someone". It's just too bad they don't release their stuff over here anymore and we don't justify any live shows. Have UB40 forgotten about their American fans... sure seems like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of their BEST !, June 10, 2006
This review is from: Who You Fighting for (Audio CD)
This is, without a doubt, one of their best albums to date. No bad tracks on the cd. My favorite tracks are: ONE WOMAN MAN, PLENTY MORE, AFTER TONIGHT (please note: the short version is included on the album - not the Extended VERSION which is 1:40 longer, and the better of the two), WAR POEM, WHO YOU FIGHTING FOR?, .....oh hell, the WHOLE ALBUM is friggin fantastic! BTW, saw them in VEGAS and they were unreal! THey are coming back this summer - august 2006 - highly recommend that you go see them LIVE! And GET THE ALBUM!

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER GOOD ONE FROM UB40, June 1, 2006
By
This review is from: Who You Fighting for (Audio CD)
As always, another impressive album from UB40. I listen to this c.d.every morning as I commute to work. You would too, if you saw them live in San Diego on March 28th, 2006 promoting "Who You Fighting For". Alot of new sounds and familiar ones too. This album you must buy, especially if you are a "true" UB40 fan. Trust me, you won't get tired of this one.

Kudo's to UB40 for another stellar album. They have always kept reggae old school while still sounding fresh and vibrant. Beautiful rhythmic melodies and great lyrics. Even the classic reggae tracks like "good situation" aka Groovy situation sound updated but still retain old reggae charm.Ali campbell never sounded better. I look forward to more from this great group.

P.S UB40 was the number for the unemployment form in England. Which is where most the group met. Buy it and enjoy.

Personal favorite tracks include Track 2 After tonight
Track 6 sins of the father
Track 11 I'll be on my way

And beautiful Track 13
"Things you say you love"

4.0 out of 5 stars Delivers what is expected from the group, February 9, 2006
This review is from: Who You Fighting For? (Audio CD)
The Good
We all know that UB40 is a predominately reggae band, but there is a lot of pop-rock appeal to there music. The group comes out swinging on the opening track "Who You Fighting For," as they describe how big business and the government profits from the little guy putting his life on the line. "After Tonight" (Matumbi) is a seductive track full of brass and percussion. Despite its silly title, "Bling Bling" is quite catchy and refreshing. It's not all about political outcry for UB40, they engage in a spiritual discussion of the first law makers and first rules of the land on "Sins of the Fathers."

"Good Situation" (Gene Chandler) focuses on determination in the eyes of infatuation. UB40 count off one by one the "Reasons" why they're attracted to someone special. The tempo in this one is faster that usual for the group. "I'll Be on My Way" is a remake of a McCartney/Lennon collaboration. It's not a song a recognize, but it's enjoyable just the same. The group's cover of The Jamaicans' "Things You Say You Love" has a nice bounce to it.

The Bad
The covers chosen for this album are quite obscure, for me at least.

The Verdict
UB40 have a distinct sound of there own, and nothing has changed on Who You Fighting For. Though I feel that this release caters more to longtime fans, it still delivers what is expected from the group.
