4.0 out of 5 stars Whole Affair by Izit, July 31, 2000

Very cool: sort of Swing out Sister (remember them?) meets the Brand New Heavies. Awesome vocals by the lead singer.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent, May 23, 2010
This review is from: Whole Affair (Audio CD)
This is modern alright. Izit work their fantastic playing into fat bass acid jazz grooves.

I took this out after listening to and reviewing fellow acid jazzers Incognito's Positivity: sometimes it is revealing to examine music in clusters.

Forced to give a nod, I'd go with Izit. What sticks out about Whole Affair is, actually, what doesn't. Both bands use modern digital production. But where Incognito choose to highlight the shine, almost making it another instrument, Izit use a more subtle approach

The thick bass and gleaming musical skylines on Whole Affair inform you this is a modern album, but don't stick it in your face. Izit have a sharp sense of melody, and every sound--even the female singer's refined voice-is evenly mixed.

You know this is no 1967 Larry Young gig, but as soon as you note the modernity, you can forget it, and get reams of enjoyment out of these diamond cut chord progressions, and Izit's melodic pop instincts: the 1960s pop soul influence is deep under the text of Whole Affair, but like everything else this band does, is wound tightly in the perfect candy wrapper.

Get this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless Acid Jazz!, March 12, 2008

This review is from: Whole Affair (Audio CD)
This CD is the definition of acid jazz. The production is very good ,but not overdone. It is jazzy, funky and cool. The vocals are great and the players are serious groovers. I bought this back in the 90's and still listen to it often. As far as I know they only made two full length CD's. Both are great.

Got turned onto Izit by a hip record store owner and have been listening to them alot ever since. Have purchased other recordings of theirs to hear there styling and flavor. Wishing i could have been down with them earlier. Don't know what happened to the members. heard Nicola Bright was doing some work with Nightmares on Wax. Izit here, Izit there, Izit should be everywhere!

4.0 out of 5 stars Izit - A rare find!, December 2, 2002
This review is from: Whole Affair (Audio CD)
I fell in love with this band after hearing their cut "Stories" on "This is Acid Jazz Vol I". The "Whole Affair" is more of the same, music you'll play over and over again. This CD is a "must have" for any and all Acid Jazz fans.
