5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Wait, September 15, 2011
This review is from: The Whole Hog Cookbook: Chops, Loin, Shoulder, Bacon, and All That Good Stuff (Hardcover)
I waited so long to get Libbie's cookbook "The Whole Hog Cookbook". I am going to tell you that it was well worth the wait. The recipes themselves are very exciting and make your mouth water. But then you look at the pictures (like I read the recipe first before looking at the pictures, right....)and you're hooked. The pig tails that she puts through out the book are so elegantly written. They draw you into that section of recipes and make you want to make them as much if not more than the picture in some cases. I love the drawings, especially the one for "Loins". At first look I thought the piggy was doing its business. I thought to myself, how could she start out with this. Then I realized that little dot was the beginning of the arrow up to the loin.

People, you have to get out and get this recipe book to add to your collection. It is so much more than a recipe book. It's filled with so many of her memories and they will bring back your childhood memories as well. (BTW, Libbie, I grew up in Ohio and mom made the tenderloin sandwiches like yours that were the size of a baseball glove, it didn't stop at Illinois...LOL). The pictures are so excellent, you'll want to put this book on your coffee table in your living room. Just make sure you get it into your kitchen as well to make these tasty piggy recipes. Now, I have to get back to reading The Whole Hog Cookbook........

5.0 out of 5 stars from snout to tail, a GREAT cookbook!, October 9, 2011

This review is from: The Whole Hog Cookbook: Chops, Loin, Shoulder, Bacon, and All That Good Stuff (Hardcover)
With so many cookbooks out with personal stories and recipes, it's hard to know who really knows their stuff and who is just a blogger or actress writing a cookbook. Let me tell you, from page 1 of this book, you'll realize that Libbie is the real deal. She's spent years honing her culinary skills, everywhere from pig farms to multi-million dollar yachts to serving as Paula Deen's food stylist. Not only has she created beautiful recipes, she knows her swine and gives them the love they deserve. I've never made homemade sausage before but her version looks easy and beautiful, I'm trying it this week! Aside from the pork recipes, she has some mouth-watering sides, such as her butt-kickin' ketchup. Her love for food and slightly sassy humor make this not only a fabulous cookbook but a great read. I love how the book is divided by parts of the pig and she has great tips on what kind of pork to use, where to get it, etc...This one has been out on my kitchen counter since it arrived and I doubt it will make it to the bookshelf anytime soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for chicks....., October 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Whole Hog Cookbook: Chops, Loin, Shoulder, Bacon, and All That Good Stuff (Hardcover)
I initially purchased The Whole Hog Cookbook for the recipes I've seen on a number of websites. I was eager to give some of the recipes a test run but, as it turns out, it ended up being one of those books one can't just put down. I actually found myself skipping over the recipes in order to get to the next story. I read on some blog that this was a cookbook for "chicks." I couldn't disagree more. I'm a "dude".... who loves pork who also loves funny people. I can honestly say it's my favorite purchase on Amazon in years! If you happen to be a friend of mine, DON'T buy this because you're getting it for Christmas! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Poor packaging, January 6, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Whole Hog Cookbook: Chops, Loin, Shoulder, Bacon, and All That Good Stuff (Hardcover)
I bought this book as a gift and it was included in a box with other items. The book was loose with no external wrapping or sleeve. Subsequently the edges were damaged and the cover slightly torn. In other words it looked slightly used. I seem to remember books were shrink wrapped to a cardboard sleeve. Incidentally I ordered a Bobby Flay cookbook, it arrived in similar condition in another box. By the way the recipient thought the book was great and liked the recipies. I will probably buy one for myself, hopefully it will be packaged better.

5.0 out of 5 stars GO Hog Wild with The Whole Hog Cookbook!, December 18, 2011

This review is from: The Whole Hog Cookbook: Chops, Loin, Shoulder, Bacon, and All That Good Stuff (Hardcover)
If you like pork like I do, then you have to add The Whole Hog Cookbook to your culinary library. Author and pork expert Libbie Summers takes the reader on a flavorful and tasty journey through the world of pork! The recipes are well instructed and easy to follow with traditional favorites like "Hedonistic Pig Pizza" and "Hog-tied and Hungry Chili". However the real kicker is the recipe for "Pickled Pig's Feet" which is left for the more adventurous palate! My personal favorite dish for any dinner party is the "Goat Stuffed Pork". The visuals are exceptional and the book is just as fun to read as it is to cook from! Way to go Libbie Summers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hog-tastic!, December 16, 2011
This review is from: The Whole Hog Cookbook: Chops, Loin, Shoulder, Bacon, and All That Good Stuff (Hardcover)
The Whole Hog Cookbook by Libbie Summers is not just a mere cookbook. It is the accumulation of culinary knowledge gathered over a lifetime and perfected during Libbie Summers' professional cooking career.

It is a book about family, fashion and of course, food! The personal anecdotes Libbie shares of her cooking adventures combined with the gorgeous, mouthwatering photography of Chia Chong makes this book a unique original, much like the author herself.

This tome of hog knowledge is not just a master class in appetizing pork preparation but an insightful look into the life, style and talent of Libbie Summers, who much like her beloved grandmother Lula Mae, is a true "character."

The recipes contained within the pages of the Whole Hog Cookbook are not just for the experienced few but are easily executable by the "kitchen-phobic." Emancipating us mere mortals from our microwaves and drive-through windows, and allowing us to create a meal worthy of the noble swine who inspired it!

Let Libbie Summers take you on a hog-wild adventure through the kitchen, you will not be disappointed!

As a man that loves to cook The Whole Hog Cookbook has expanded my repertoire in a good way. The recipe's I've made so far are delicious, easy to follow, and inventive. I don't think I've ever made better tasting ribs than with the recipes in this book. And that's just the beginning. From breakfast to dinner and even delicious deserts! This cookbook really has EVERYTHING! Libbie's personality really shines throughout each page and the photography throughout is beautifully styled.

Libbie Summers is the real deal and this cookbook really shows off her "chops" ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to start a weekend or a week, December 16, 2011

This review is from: The Whole Hog Cookbook: Chops, Loin, Shoulder, Bacon, and All That Good Stuff (Hardcover)
The recipes in this book have started (and finished) some of the best times we have had in the past few years. You can't go wrong with any of them, but my personal favorite is the sweet and sour chops. Unbelievable.

The other great thing about this book, is that a human cook can do this well. You don't have to be a award winning gastro genius to use these to make great food and great times.
