"Whole Lotta History" was the last release to be taken off Girls Aloud's 3rd album Chemistry. It did quite well for a fourth release off an album, reaching #6. It was accompanied with 2CDs, and this is the CD2. It also has a really cool cover, the girls look like they're in a movie.

This CD has a good lineup, which I will rundown here:

01. Whole Lotta History [Ash Howes Mix]
Otherwise known as the radio edit, this is slightly different to the one on Chemistry. It has more instruments in the background and the vocals have been fine tuned and are more clear. But this track is gorgeous, one of GA's best ballads. Each girl gets a part to sing and Kimberley opens the song beautifully. This version features the chorus sung by all the girls as opposed to just Nadine. With sweeping instrumentals and great vocals, this is a beautiful song. (5/5)

02. Whole Lotta History [Whole Lotta Lamezma Mix]
Creatively titled, the girls pull in their resident remixer, Tony Lamezma to turn the ballad into a dance song. And he doesn't mangle it into a club track. It gives it more oomph and generally makes it better. (5/5)

03. Teenage Dirtbag [Live at the Hammersmith Apollo]
The CD says this song is from the Carling Apollo, but the DVD of the tour says the Hammersmith Apollo. But anyway, the girls bravely tackled a Wheatus cover on the tour and this is the result. I have to say the studio version the girls made for the Radio 1 album is better, but this has a lot of heart - the crowd's cheering, the girls' live vocals and the band playing in the background. The girls make the song their own and get to rock out a bit. (5/5)

04. Whole Lotta History [Video]
The video for WLH was GA's first video that wasn't filmed in a studio. They went to Paris to film it and the result is beautiful. The girls look stunning (especially Kimberley) and the whole feel of the video is very melancholy (except for one segment where Kim starts laughing and it's on camera). Great video but we could have used more shots of Paris. (4/5)

There is also a karaoke version of the video without vocals so you can sing along and a game, which isn't that fun.

But overall, this is a high quality single with lots of good stuff. More people should have bought this! 5 stars.

You gotta love this single. The album art is beautiful and the tracks are basically awesome! I foiund this at Tower Records for $8! Good bargain! Don't buy this HERE of all places.

01. Whole Lotta History - [A+] - This is such a woeful song with beautiful lyrics and such heart. This was the first Girls Aloud song I got hooked on (Been a fan since this spring). It's great and I hate the bashers that hate it.

02. Whole Lotta History [Remix] - [A+] - Who'd have thought that Tony Lazema could make a great powerpop remix out of a slow ballad? I gotta hear the work on "I'll Stand By You" now... gosh! The lyrics are switched around to better the effects. It's powerful and more angst ridden on remix.

03. Teenage Dirtbag - [B] - Pretty good song. Great performance. Sort of memorable...

04. Whole Lotta History [Video] - [A-] - This video is very beautifully made, but gets stale very quick. I think they should have had a photo shoot with those locations and each individual girl and then made five limited edition postcards for the single. Good idea, yes.

05. Whole Lotta History [Karaoke] - [A+] - All singles should have legit karaoke videos. Amen to this.

06. Whole Lotta History [Game] - [N/A] - All Girls Aloud games are pointless. This one involves you being cupid and shooting arrows at hearts. Yay.

Buy it at Tower or Virgin.

This song stands above the rest, in that it is so unique as far as slow songs go. From the sound of it, to the beautiful, yet sometimes cheesily cheeky, lyrics this song is SUPERB. The rest of the single is good as well. The remix lacks a little, I can't quite place my finger on it but its missing something. The live version of teenage dirtbag is almost worth the price itself because of its rarity. The videos and the game are unique pluses as well. So if you're a fan of high standard, well produced pop music, get this single a.s.a.p.

Alright, Whole Lotta History in the first place isn't an amazing song. I have their album, Chemistry, and this song just doesn't stand up to some of the other tracks it has to offer.

But then what do they do? They have their resident crappy remixer, Tony Lamezma, come in and speed the vocals up, lay down a dance beat, and call it a remix! Ugh.

The saving grace, momentarily, of this single is the live cover of the cheeky Wheatus song, "Teenage Dirtbag", but it lacks any real personality and therefore loses it's candy coating very quickly.
