Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

When three young female New York editors come up with a sassy scheme to publicly expose a notoriously womanizing literary agent, little do they imagine he'll end up not just naked (and tied up in S/M gear) but dead. All do, however, have motives for murder: the smarmy fellow has personally humiliated successful Felicia Redmon, professionally backstabbed not-so-successful Tallie Blankenship and plagiarized the plot of a book that means the world to ambitious Jan Glass. So confessing that they were the last to see their tormentor alive is likely to make them prime suspects, even in the eyes of Tallie's protective new cop boyfriend. But if they stay silent, they may wind up being the real murderer's next victims. While whodunit isn't revealed till the book's surprise ending, the suspense isn't the kind that kills you. As is typical of Bond's books (Party Crashers, etc.), the overall tone is deliciously frothy, and small comedic details abound: high-powered Felicia is a secret super housewife who cleans, cooks and lies about it, and Jan has changed her name from plain "Jane" to appear more glamorously French. And though romance is not the book's main focus, there's enough love between the laughs to keep relationship-minded readers happy.

More About the Author

Stephanie Bond was several years into a corporate computer programming career when an instructor in her night school MBA program remarked that she had a flair for writing and encouraged her to submit one of her projects to academic journals. "But," Stephanie says, "all I could think was 'I wonder if I could write a romance novel?'" Bond grew up on a farm in eastern Kentucky where the entertainment choices were few. Luckily, she had a beloved aunt who shared her passion for reading. "When she visited once a year, she brought boxes and boxes of books by Victoria Holt and Phyllis Whitney and lush historicals--I was in heaven! I think I learned most of what I know about world history from historical romance novels. So suddenly thinking about writing in the genre of the books I loved so much was very exciting." After writing every spare moment for two years, Stephanie sold her first romantic comedy manuscript, IRRESISTIBLE? to Harlequin books. Two years later, she walked away from her corporate career to write commercial fiction full time. To date, she's published over 60 romance and mystery projects with various New York publishers, and is most well-known for her BODY MOVERS humorous mystery series. Stephanie lives in midtown Atlanta and is probably working on a new story at the very moment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Middle of the Road Read, February 27, 2005
This review is from: Whole Lotta Trouble (Mass Market Paperback)
I've read better and I've read worse but, overall, I'd recommend this book for it's light reading, spots of humor, and smidge of romance. Basically, 3 friends in the publishing industry set out to humiliate a man who has been destroying their personal lives and careers. However, their stunt goes awry when the man ends up dead and the 3 women are suspects. The mystery of `who done it' kept me reading, but the conclusion to the mystery wasn't really satisfying. I also wish the author had explored the romances a bit more; there was a lot of chemistry between a few characters in the book but it wasn't a primary storyline. I would read a Stephanie Bond book again though and hope for a little more fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT story with lots of action., October 20, 2004
This review is from: Whole Lotta Trouble (Mass Market Paperback)
I really loved the two main characters for this book. I was sad to put it down. It really flew along and had a wonderful suspenseful storyline. I immediately began looking for more books by Stephanie Bond since this was the first one I read. I hope they are all as wonderful as this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing, March 11, 2005
This review is from: Whole Lotta Trouble (Mass Market Paperback)
I threw this book at the wall. After a promising beginning, the story went downhill fast. The ending was beyond ridiculous.
