5.0 out of 5 stars ''hate upon hate upon hate''
great cd. the shai hulud tracks are great. the original song is amazing. the covers of bad religion and NOFX are great as well. the another victim side is straight up moshcore. the SSD cover is so good. does the boston band justice. a definite pick up. standout tracks: linoleum, set your body ablaze, and boiling point.

...the roasted pheasant being Shai Hulud...with a new singer under their belt (or so I've heard) this was a big thing to pull off...did they do it well? Most definetely...

...Shai Hulud seem to do something that I struggle to find with their music...they create dual moods...the instrumentals at the beginning would tell you that this was a happy punk song and the melodies are pulled off flawlessly...but suddenly this voice comes along and knocks it all down with it's insane agression and anger it breaks out of the mold the instruments have given it and runs on a rampage...the instruments are the city...the vocals are godzilla...

...now unfortunately the whole score of this is brought down by the slap of cold meat next to it...yes...Another Victim...who have absolutely nothing interesting about them...they ignore the dual moods system and just act like "Grr...we're hardcore give us a record contract!!!!" And the whole thing I've just heard before a hundred times...so it didn't pique my interest at all...

...all in all you should buy it if you like Shai Hulud...but my reccomendation would be to download their songs so you can just cut off the cold meat all together...no one likes food poisoning...

4.0 out of 5 stars Geert is the man, November 4, 2002
This review is from: Whole New Level (Audio CD)
I think Shai Hulud is the best band ever and their new album should be incredible because I havn't heard a bad song by them yet. I don't really like the covers they do of NOFX and Bad Religion though, mainly because those songs have dumb lyrics. But Set Your Body Ablaze is proof Shai Hulud is as good as ever with Geert as their new vocalist. I recommend all their other releases over this one but it's still worth buying for that song alone if you're as big a fan as I am.

3.0 out of 5 stars One is better than nothing!!!, April 4, 2001

This was the first lifesign of Shai Hulud with thier new singer Geert from Belgium, who surprisingly joined the band during their 1999 European Tour. To be honest, i liked Chad a little bit more, but that does not change the fact that the Hulud is by far the best HC-band around. The only song which they have written themselves on this EP is the first. "Set you body ablaze". And this is one of the best songs ever made. Definitely. It combines harsh brutality with the best melodies ever come out of a guitar. If you like their old stuff, you'll like this one. And Geert? I think he is a little bit too much in the background and the wwhole production could be a little bit better. But still. Enormous!! The other two songs are cover songs of NOFX and Bad Religion. First I was a little bit doubtful about that. But hey, brilliant. They make total hard and brutal hardcore songs out of this melodycore-stuff. Amazing. I really can't await their new album, which should be out this summer!!

Another Victim? CRAP! Honestly, i do not know why. But these Earth Crisis Wannabes lack everything a good HC-Band should have. The singer is boring, the choruses do not get you off your seats and the whole music gets in one ear in and out the other!! Just bad played and boring Tough Guy New School New York Metal, or whatever you call it!!

So for the whole Split-EP: Shai hulud get 6 stars (even if it is not possible), because they are amazing and Another Victim do not get any star, because they suck!! Really!! So overall its just 3 stars, but that does not mean it is not worth it, because the Shai Hulud side is so good!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot wait for more!!, October 23, 2000

I will admit that I was skeptical at first, Shai Hulud having a new singer and all. I couldn't believe what they managed to pull off after all the member problems they had. Their portion of this split is absolutely incredible. The music, as usual, is well written, brutal, melodic and moving. The lyrics are, as usual, insightful, wise, intelligent and powerful. The new vocals, no offense to Chad, are brutal and have everything Chad had but times ten!! More brutal, more emotional and I hear this new Dutch guy even helps write lyrics.

This split renewed my faith in heavy music. It exemplifies the standard Shai Hulud has set for themselves. New members or old, it seems that they will never fall beneath that standard. Refined as gold, long live Hulud!!

Another Victim rocks too. Sorry guys, I love Shai Hulud.

this is the first thing i've heard from shai hulud after thier first singer and drummer left. i'm not dissapointed but this is just a split and most of these songs are covers. linolium's cool though so is set your body ablaze. another victim is ok not that good though.
