Amazing Instrumental, March 14, 2006

I first heard Sherry K live in a small venue, and she blew me away with only a piano. I own both this CD and Westbound, and have given both as gifts. Both are great, and take advantage of full (yet not over-produced) instrumentation, but this one moves me more. Rarely have I heard modern instrumental music that communicates such specific feeling and... narrative. Unlike way-too-many pretentious modern instrumentals (and poems), the titles actually provide an insertion point to the work, and the story unfolds from there. These are definitely not "background" instrumental pieces - they are as engaging and rewarding and demanding of your attention as good short stories, and you'll feel better for listening!
PS: If you get a chance to see her live, do it!
