Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

The Whole Pop Catalog is the definitive reference on the knickknacks, products, and commodities that constitute pop culture. Laid out like a zine, with a half dozen short blurbs and bizarre illustrations on each page, the Catalog covers everything from Abbot and Costello to yo-yos, and does so with the right mix of reverence and amusement. If you're looking for a GI Joe video, an old-fashioned wall-mounted soda pop bottle opener, an explanation of 3-D movie technology, or an Ed Norton doll, you must have this tacky volume.

From School Library Journal

YA--Return with us now to those thrill ing days of yesteryear, to the days of Pez holders, Mr. Potato Head, drive-in movies, lava lamps, and more. YAs will find a full history of each item, related information, trivia, and ad dresses where the items can be pur chased. Since the book is arranged al phabetically, readers will be able to zero in immediately on a favorite section such as James Dean, Hula-Hoops, or yo-yos, and this catalog could be read from cover to cover. Guaranteed to arouse the curiosity of even the most reluctant reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tremendous fun for baby boomers!, July 22, 2010

This review is from: The Whole Pop Catalog: The Berkely Pop Culture Project (Paperback)
This is an out-of-print gem that turns up in used book stores and wholesale closeout bins occasionally; but it's timeless despite its age. Hundreds of pages of memories, thousands of photos, millions of laughs; it's a bunch of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars from a British pop culture fan, October 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Whole Pop Catalog: The Berkely Pop Culture Project (Paperback)
This is one of those books that you can dip into time after time and always find something new and fascinating.. It examines a huge range of topics eg advertising, Barbie, baseball, Hippies, Marilyn Monroe,yo-yos, giving historical background and adding interesting follow-up activities such as fan clubs, appreciation societies and places to visit as well as reading lists. The compilers enthusiasm shines through. Pop culture is often trivialised and looked down upon by many but this shows just how vibrant and fascinating it really is. I think most people would have at least one passion, however secret, among the many topics covered here.
