Product Description

Size: 1

Wholesome Sweeteners Fair Trade Organic Sucanat (which stands for Sugar Cane Natural), is a whole cane sugar. It's made by simply crushing freshly cut sugar cane, extracting the juice and heating it in a large vat. Once the juice is reduced to a rich, dark syrup, it is hand-paddled. Hand paddling cools and dries the syrup, creating the dry porous granules we call Sucanat. Nothing is added and nothing is taken out! Wholesome Sweeteners Fair Trade Organic Sucanat is made from 100% certified organic sugar cane grown in Costa Rica. Because Sucanat still contains all of the cane's natural molasses, it has a deep brown color and a distinct, natural molasses flavor that enhances many foods. It can be substituted for brown sugar in any recipe and it is especially good in chocolate-based recipes, for baking and for BBQ sauces and marinades. It is an excellent source of iron, calcium, vitamin B6, potassium and chromium, which helps balance blood sugar. The Fair Trade Certified logo is Wholesome's guarantee that our farmers' cooperatives are paid directly for the cane grown and milled. This means that the farmers can compete with factory farms, cultivate the quality of their crops, send their kids to school and build thriving communities.

If you are looking for more nutrition in your sugar you have found it in this product. However it does have a distinctive flavor. If you are putting in your coffee, tea, cereal, than you will taste it and it takes awhile to dissolve. Mix with cold products and expect to wait. I love to bake with it. The sweet isn't as sweet as with sugar. The flavor mixes well in baking.

This is a yummy sweetener! Some may need to get used to it- I made peanut butter cookies the other day with it and my husband said the look "earthy" (you can see the tiny sugar dots) but he said they tasted GREAT! I would say slightly less sweet than conventional sugar. But better for you due to natural minerals and less processing. Overall great product.

We are trying to stay away from processed foods and artificial sweeteners. Now that we've been off white sugar for a couple of weeks, the Sucanant tastes even sweeter. We use it daily in our oatmeal. I mix the Sucanant in with the milk, water and salt and bring it to a boil. Then add the oats and cook for five minutes. My husband and children (ages 5 and almost 7) really like the oatmeal and Sucanant. We have been using Sucanant for about a year and a half or so.

I have really enjoyed this sucanat. Nice flavor and better for me than more processed sweeteners/sugars. Will be purchasing again when this bag runs out.

I needed this for a "sleepy" recipe I found online. It has a unique taste and it is delicious in oatmeal with a touch of organic sugar. It isn't a sweet sugar but adds a molasses flavor ....subtle and rich and yummy! My husband and I loved the flavor with a touch of sugar added to it!
Again, I couldn't find this product anywhere in our nearby mid-sized city so the seller using Amazon made it possible to find and use!!!!!

Product came quickly. Was exactly what I was looking for. Not a bad price either compared to what I have seen in stores in my area.

This is to the people that are complaining about Trader Joe's Sucanat.
You consider beet juice a non natural? Tocopherols are vit "E"!!!!!!!
It's hard to understand your complain and the ones I understood made no sense. Unbleached sugar is what we want because the bleach takes away all the chromium that are naturally there and help us digest sugar. When the body has to draw its own chromium to digest food it becomes depleted. After that we crave sugar because for millions of years when we eat something sweet it comes with plenty of chromium. Of course bleached sugar doesn't and we become even more depleted because we have to use more of our own body. That's where the addiction comes from. So I'm very happy with unbleached, specially the cheap kind Trader Joe's sells. Thank you Trader Joe's!
