Product Description

Wholesome Sweeteners Fair Trade Certified Organic Molasses is a blackstrap molasses with a rich, full-bodied robust flavor that adds natural color and opulent caramel molasses tones in recipes.  It is especially good in molasses cookies, in other baked goods, breads, sauces, BBQ sauces and in marinades.  It can be used as a one-for-one replacement for refined blackstrap molasses.Wholesome"s Organic Molasses is actually the end product, or by-product, of the production of our Organic Sugar.  It is loaded with vitamins, minerals and trace elements naturally present in the sugar cane plant and is a good source of iron, vitamin B6, potassium, calcium and magnesium. The Fair Trade Certified logo is Wholesome"s guarantee that our farmers" cooperatives are paid directly for the cane grown and milled. This means that the farmers can compete with factory farms, cultivate the quality of their crops, send their kids to school and build thriving communities.

I also use it in baked beans & homemade BBQ sauce!

Every harvest is different so numbers will vary some so forget calcium, magnesium and even sugar where Wholesome shines but it is the potassium that cuts it for me.

It leaked slightly in the packaging, but just so much that the bottle got a bit black and sticky, not much content was missing.

I'm not sure what the difference is, but I've tried Grandma's and Brer Rabbit full flavor and neither of them come close. Maybe it's the Earth giving back flavor in return for their eco-conscious worker friendly practices:) This is the best tasting molasses that I've tried - nice strong flavor and dark color. The only caveat is to be watchful when baking - because of its naturally darker color you can't tell as readily when cookies are done, but the flavor trade off is worth the extra watchfulness!

I bought this thinking it was a good price, but found it for half as much at Sprouts, the new grocery store chain in DFW metroplex. Good source of vitamins & minerals.

This is organic not conventional so a huge difference in the nutritional values organic vs. none organic. These are grade A molasses others are not. One tbsp of Wholesome organic molasses offers me 20% iron, 10% calcium which is more than milk's calcium since milk's calcium is fortified, molasses calcium is not 20% potassium, 8% magnesium, and 10% copper. With 40~60 calories and 10~13gr sugar, I only use one tbsp a day in my green tea daily as well as when I am in need of fast energy, without any additives. Potassium stops cramps and this is a life saver. Once opened, I place some in a smaller tightly sealed container and keep it in refrigerator, refill as needed, but consume it in less than 6 months. I am into sports, diet and nutrition and blackstrap molasses' nutritional value varies depending on the quality of the sugar cane or beets from which it was extracted. For that reason organic and brand is extremely important to me. Honey loses its medicinal value when added to tea but since molasses is a by-product which is heated during the production so further heat does not impact the nutritional value. With all that said, you will still need to get used to the taste since the taste is somewhere around bitter, beet juice and changes the taste of the tea. Bravo.

Whole Foods started carrying Plantation so as a avid consumer of molasses, I had to do more research since I need the best for myself. Few things about Plantation is questionable. Nowhere you can find a link to their company on the Internet if you want to see their labelling. Plantation does not attach any images of their product with the Nutritional Facts anywhere on Amazon or VitaCost or anywhere at all except one blog written by an individual about Plantation. Not a Fair Trade product either.

Do not buy this product unless you like to throw money away. This bottle should cost between $5-$6. I paid the almost $16 they were marked because I did not check other sites and did not know how much my husband usually paid. Extremely disappointed!
(Please note the brand and quality is good, but not for this price point!)

After reading all of the positive reviews of "Wholesome's" molasses, I purchased it at a local grocery store (saving myself a hefty shipping charge). I am disappointed in the product, to say the least.

My regular molasses is "Aunt Patty's" and I decided to do a side-by-side comparison with "Wholesome's" molasses. The biggest plus for "Wholesome's" is the amount of potassium: 730 mg. (20% DV) versus 320 mg. (9% DV) for "Aunt Patty's." Additionally, "Aunt Patty's" has 20% calcium (versus 10%), and 20% iron (versus 15%).

Both products are unsulphured and both have "non-GMO" on their labels. However, "Aunt Patty's" is in a glass container (versus plastic), and is made in the USA (versus Paraguay).

While both products are a dark molasses, "Aunt Patty's" has a "richer" taste versus "Wholesome's," which has almost a "dirt" taste.

I'm going to stay with "Aunt Patty's" and hope that Amazon will begin carrying this company's molasses - in gallon containers!

PROS: Our family's #1 sweetener. We use more of this than we use sugar & are never without it. Great taste, fantastic health benefits, we (2 adults + 2 kids) all love it. Not to mention it reminds us of a great trip to Jamaica, where we visited the Appleton Rum Factory and were, in fact, introduced to it :-)

CONS: It comes in a plastic container and it is made in Paraguay - my biggest complaints. [I would never buy any conventional sugar or sugar by-product, regardless of the country of origin or the packaging - chances are it comes from GMO beets.]

Price, on the other hand, is kinda steep here. I buy it from iherb and they sell it for 7.53$ - but you get additional automatic discounts with every single purchase. BTW, if you are a new customer, you can get 10$ off orders > 40$ or 5$ off orders < 40$ - use coupon FIH033.

[vent: Not sure what is happening to amazon's prices lately, anyway. Just checked today the price for Blanched Almond Meal Flour, 5 lb. and it has increased by 17$ - wow! and :-( End of vent]

Edit 10/6: price increased since yesterday. At 15.62$, it is now more than 100% more expensive than the [...] 's price. I hope the good people at amazon know what they are doing.
