An Oral Tale of Three Diverse Shepherds Who Experienced the Announcement and Birth of Jesus,
By White Fang (York, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: To Whom the Angel Spoke (Hardcover)
"To Whom the Angel Spoke" is an inspirational small book (6 1/4" X 8 1/2") which would be ideal for a Christmas stocking stuffer or gift for a child as well as an adult. This small 34 page book can be read in 10 minutes. The author, Terry Kay, wrote this story to be shared and read aloud because he believes that there are some stories that need to be said aloud. This book could be shared in a classroom, Sunday School Class, and Christmas family celebration or be presented as a Reader's Theater in school or Sunday School. The text is presented in a semi - rhythmic style which lends itself to being read aloud. The text is supported by beautiful intense paintings by Eileen Blyth. They are simple paintings but convey the emotions of the story very well. Three shepherds who are very different from each other in physical size, weight, skin color, emotions, dreams, philosophies, and demeanor experience the announcement and birth of Jesus. As diverse as they were, there was something special for each of them in the birth of Jesus. Not only that, but each of them were vey special in God's incarnation. When this story is read or acted out, children and adults will enjoy it and develop a greater appreciation for the diversity of people and God's love for each of them. This is a great book that should be shared orally for children and adults.

Three Shepherd's Perspective,
This review is from: To Whom the Angel Spoke (Hardcover)
"Once, there were three shepherds who lived together while keeping watch over their sheep. Oh, there might have been more than three of them, but that doesn't matter. Three is a good number. Not too few. Not too many..." -- From To Whom the Angel Spoke
Written by Terry Kay and illustrated by Eileen Blyth, To Whom the Angel Spoke [Peachtree Publishers] delivers a lovely version of the story of Christmas from the perspective of three very different shepherds. Vibrant canvas artwork coupled with the unique reactions of each of the shepherds offers a fresh, gentle take on the blessed night celebrated worldwide. More than just re-telling the Biblical story, though, the author paints the shepherds as contemplative--even poetic--as they consider how the wind makes them feel and if the people in the caravan heading to pay taxes in Bethlehem might be childhood friends... From the gorgeous sunset to the glistening star that shone overhead to the awe-inspiring good tidings brought by the angels, To Whom the Angel Spoke provides a new hardcover Christmas classic that can be enjoyed by all who celebrate the birth of Jesus. As the book reminds us: "And again that Voice speakds. To all who are different, but are seekers and askers and believers, that Voice is heard always at the Christmas." -- Janet Boyer, author of Back in Time Tarot
