5.0 out of 5 stars The flava of '91
When I first heard Aceylone's "My Fantasy" back in early '92, i was like, what the funk is this? His fast rhymes and that weird reverberating noise that wonderfully resounds throughout the track kept me listening, till i finally realized I had to get the album. I always use My Fantasy when i'm DJing... "Every-ev-ev-every rapper in the house shut the funk...

3.0 out of 5 stars To Whom It May Concern........the original mic kings!!
Allow me to start by saying unfortunately this is the only 1 out of the 4 F.F. albums I have that isnt original+was downloaded b'cuz it was virtually impossible to get a hold of in Ireland. B'cuz of this Im missing afew tracks ("Let's Start Over", "Sike", "It's On", "Convolutions") so this is a review of the 12 tracks I do have (sorry). I have since then got hold of all...

His fast rhymes and that weird reverberating noise that wonderfully resounds throughout the track kept me listening, till i finally realized I had to get the album. I always use My Fantasy when i'm DJing... "Every-ev-ev-every rapper in the house shut the funk up!" '91 was a great year, "All For One" by Brand Nubian and OK by Organized Konfusion stand out in my mind, along with this great effort....there is just something about this album that keeps you coming back for more..."Sunshine Men" speaks out to the wack MC's lacing tracks with wack beats...these boys can say this, because their rhymes/beats are definitely ill....the funk, is gonna hit ya, in '91...peace!

5.0 out of 5 stars Second best album ever, October 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: To Whom It May Concern (Audio CD)
dang this thing was light years ahead of it's time, probably still is... Second only to A Book Of Human Language by Aceyalone in my opinion. Any head into just hip-hop should have this album. When you think back to 1991 (when tribe called quest was said to be on top of hip-hop)with all the simple lines(single syllable/word rhymes), there these emcees were spitting some thought-provoking verses with amazing rhyme schemes... pretty much inventing the quick so-called bone flow about 4-5 years before the majority of the population thought about it. That famous line people like to use: "If you don't have it you're sleeping (more so in a coma)" certainly apply's here. Project Blowed what's the code!

5.0 out of 5 stars Music To My Ears, December 17, 2002

One word to describe this album: wow. The eloquence and flow of these fellas is unbelievable, the lyrics just get better and better every time you hear it. This album also contains some of the funkiest beats to come out of 1991.
If Intercity Griots was a great album, that makes this album indispensible to anyone who claims to be a hip hop head.
BUY IT.
If you like this album then you should check Buhloone Mindstate by De La Soul and the other Freestyle Fellowship l.ps.

F.F has been around for a while, they are truly the ultimate in underground hip-hop.even in 91 with their first comercial release was one of a kind and ahead of it's time. you can listen to their 2 cds and know that every time you listen it get's better; you'll probably pick up on a few new words. peace to F.F.,ATU,G-PAC,FAT JACK,ALL MASS MEN keep up the good work.

5.0 out of 5 stars NEEDS MULTIPLE LISTENINGS, August 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: To Whom It May Concern (Audio CD)
i ONLY HEARD THIS ALBUM ON VINYL A FEW YEARS AGO AND DISMISSED IT AS NOTHING SPECIAL. I SOON GOT INTO "INERCITY GRIOTS" AND WAS ALL OVER IT. I GOT THIS ALBUM ON CD A LONG TIME AFTER I HEARD IT ON VINYL BUT SINCE THEN MY TASTE AND EAR IN HIP-HOP EXPANDED. NOW I CONSIDER THIS JUST AS GOOD AS "INERCITY GRIOTS". IT'S GOT SOME GREAT SAMPLES AND PHENOMINAL LYRICS TO GO WITH IT. IT'S SO LISTENABLE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T GET IT ALL IN ONE SITTING. ESPECIALLY MIKAH9'S "5 O'CLOCK FOLLIES" WHILE NOT THE BEST ON THE CD, ITS A 100 WORD-A-MINUTE LYRICAL FEAST THAT DEMANDS MULTIPLE LISTENINGS. ONLY DOWNSIDE IS THE OVERALL SOUND QUALITY OF THIS CD.(I THINK IT WAS RECORDED IN SELFJUPITER'S GARAGE) PERSONAL FAVE: "120 SECONDS", ONE OF THE BEST RAP SONG IN HISTORY.

5.0 out of 5 stars Freestyle Fellowship-To Whom It May Concern, April 26, 2006
By
This review is from: To Whom It May Concern (Audio CD)
There are a few things I need to clear up before the reader checks out this review. One-I am not a huge FF fan, this is the only album of their I own, and I love it, but don't take me as a condeseur of FF's music. Two, I listen to a lot of hip-hop of this style-from before this CD's KRS-One and the people who came right after like De La Soul (who were actually right around the same time). Three, I've listened to this CD only three times, and generally for me that wouldn't qualify a review-but since there are none, why the eff not right?

I don't know what order this was in the Freestyle Fellowship collection, but I can tell you that with the rap I've heard from this time they were in their peak when they made this CD. I like to think of this CD as a De La Soul like flowing CD and a misc. subject CD. The thing I like best about this CD is the flow, something you might expect from a group called "Freestyle Fellowship." Their flows aren't simple rhyming, they run some iambic pantamoter and will often do the rhyme layering that has become a staple of Del Tha Funkee Homosapien. Another thing that I like about this CD is that although this group could be comparable to the modern-day Living Legends, everyone can flow, they don't have one dude rhyming streets ten times in a row (see Night Prowler), and almost as important as flow in group raps, their voices are all distinctly different.

The production is pretty good...basically as good as it's gonna get when the artist themself isn't doing the production, and when there's no real "mood" dictated, and therefore there can't be any really dark piano hooks or a violin or anything. Basically they do the best with what they have in terms of production. Another thing that can help the production is emcees who can rap on beat, which FF demonstrates enormous ability at in almost every song.

Basically this is an excellent hip-hop album of the early 90's, and definetly one you should pick up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hip hop masterpiece., May 25, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: To Whom It May Concern (Audio CD)
Recorded in 1990, this is the first album by the most legendary group of the LA underground crew known as Project Blowed. If you want to hear the origin of modern rap styles, get this album. The 6 tracks by Mikah 9 and Aceyalone are worth the price of admission by themselves. Mikah & Acey's styles are fast and fluid with a jazz ear (they flow over Miles' "So What"!). The beats are also very nice, jazzy and percussive and upbeat.

This album is a moment in hip hop history, that no true hiphop fan should be without. (If you want to delve more deeply into this history, pick up Mikah-9's Timetable for a few more tracks of early rap styling from 90 and 91). If you don't believe me, the heralded DJs Q-bert, D-Styles, and Shortkut (of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz) all listed "To Whom It May Concern" as one of their top 10 favorite hiphop albums of all time. Yes, it's that good, and that important in the chronology of hip hop. Nobody else was rhyming like this in 1990, and nobody else even tried it till years later.

All respect due to the mighty mighty Freestyle Fellowship!

5.0 out of 5 stars The dopest sh*t...of course., June 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: To Whom It May Concern (Audio CD)
Yep, it's almost 10 years old, and sounds fresher than most anything else coming out these days. A nice reworking (original working) on We will not Tolerate (with a beat, this time) and the general lyrical genius that anyone who knows the Freestyle Fellowship knows will *never* go away. Hey, the promised they would never fall off...I believe 'em.

3.0 out of 5 stars To Whom It May Concern........the original mic kings!!, March 28, 2007
This review is from: To Whom It May Concern (Audio CD)
Allow me to start by saying unfortunately this is the only 1 out of the 4 F.F. albums I have that isnt original+was downloaded b'cuz it was virtually impossible to get a hold of in Ireland. B'cuz of this Im missing afew tracks ("Let's Start Over", "Sike", "It's On", "Convolutions") so this is a review of the 12 tracks I do have (sorry). I have since then got hold of all their other albums and all of Aceyalone's solo albums so Im a big fan of this style of hiphop. Real lyricists over tight beats is the equation to good hiphop for me. With the F.F. you're always guaranteed tight flows whether it be over nice or mediocre production. All 4 are original sounding and extremely gifted lyricists, with Aceyalone+Mikah 9 continuously being mentioned as possible greatest mc's of all time!! The production on this album is very basic to allow the mc's to take centre stage and the spotlight. They were the 1st group to really focus on the lyrics side of things instaed of the beats in my opinion. The production is by no means weak, just not fantastic. There is the usual mass interludes in between the songs which kinds of ruins the flow of the album. The tracks are all strong if not spectacular with afew standouts like "My Fantasy", "Sunshine Man", "5 O'Clock Follies" (unbelieveable flow from Mikah 9), Legal Alien" and "Here I Am". A very nice album to have in your collection but not at a crazy high price.
