Format: Paperback
Carol Rogne, PhD has written a ground-breaking book explaining the nature of control and how it can negatively-and positively-impact our most intimate relationships. Her years in private practice, combined with extensive and meticulous research, provide a comprehensive view not only what controlling behavior looks like, but what it feels like, particularly for individuals who feel powerless in their relationships. Even more importantly, Dr. Rogne offers clear action steps and empowerment tools, so that readers will not only understand the nature of control, but how to empower themselves and relinquish unhealthy behaviors that can keep us feeling trapped. This book provides a terrific compliment for therapists and counselors working with clients in emotionally abusive relationships. First and foremost, however, it is of tremendous benefit to all individuals who want to end the cycle of feeling powerless and regain control of their own lives.

I literally have lost count of the number of copies of this book I have purchased for friends in need. Watching them come to an awareness of how the game of control is played opens their eyes and helps them stand firm and assert their needs in a respectful way. I love the catalog of control behaviors - it takes things that subconsciously bug you and makes them things you become acutely aware of. I also realized to my own surprise that I'm just as guilty of controlling behaviors and this book has helped open my eyes.

The book is concise, positive, and easily affordable. If you want it and can't afford a copy, heck, I'll buy you a kindle copy if you promise to read it. Just give me a reply.

I am a licensed mental health counselor. I use this book often in therapy with my clients because it is such a clear teaching. There are many examples and "bullet points" that make it an easy read. The reader will get the point right away and the information is absolutely vital in learning to spot controlling behaviors in others and the self. What a great tool in helping people develop authentic relationships.

A great read for one who is interested in understanding more about why/how people behave the way they do and how to deal with them.

I bought this book on a recommendation from my daughter. I found it to be more a lot of scenarios laid out for you to read about, but it doesn't give any solid methods or advice on how to apply anything to your own life. It may have later, but I have to admit I did not finish reading it. I found it too boring.
