5.0 out of 5 stars This book will enrich your life!
This is one of the best celebrity bios I have ever read. It is a great rags to riches story but above all a story of incredible perserverance against all odds to succeed at something the author loved which was performing.

3.0 out of 5 stars terry fator's story
very interesting. simple but well written. easy to understand how his family affected his development from childhood to the talented star he is today. He could easily have gone the other way and ended up with drug use, criminal activity, unemployment, etc. and blaming all on his "dysfunctional family" or physical/mental/emotional abuse. very satisfying to know that...

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will enrich your life!, November 20, 2008
This review is from: Who's the Dummy Now? (Paperback)
This is one of the best celebrity bios I have ever read. It is a great rags to riches story but above all a story of incredible perserverance against all odds to succeed at something the author loved which was performing.

This is a very visceral book. I found myself laughing and crying at various times and I am a 50 year old man. The stories about Terry's father dashing his dreams at every opportunity were anger inducing but there was so much joy to be had in reading his climb up the ladder and his meeting his wife-to-be Melinda.

This is a very fast read and extremely satisfying. Your life will be enriched by reading Terry Fator's story.

This is a very insightful book. It tells what has made Terry Fator, Terry Fator. What he is today is because of his circumstances. It reminds us all not to let our past rule us. It was very welcoming to see that anyone and everyone can acheive success if we have motivation and if we have God on our side. It is really nice to read how one depends on God to help him through. One great book to read. I couldn't put it down. If you are lucky enough to meet this man, you will find that he is facinating and amazing man, not to mention a world class ventriloquist!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Overcoming incredible odds, December 4, 2008

This review is from: Who's the Dummy Now? (Paperback)
If you watched Terry win on "America's Got Talent" -- or even if you didn't -- this is a MUST read. What a story. This man overcame an incredibly depressing, brutal childhood, yet never gave up on his dream to become a successful entertainer. My husband and I have met him, and he is exactly as he has appeared on TV -- just a friendly, talented man who loves life and people and appreciates everything that has happened to him. He is an uplifting, inspiring story of a dream come true.

5.0 out of 5 stars HE DID IT THE HARD WAY, July 11, 2009

This review is from: Who's the Dummy Now? (Paperback)
It is a miracle that Terry Fator is where he is today. He survived the worst childhood one can imagine. In his book he details some of the horrors he endured and the price he paid for his crime of being nothing but a good and loyal son. Terry suffered. Terry suffered bad.

Terry writes with such an engaging style you don't want to put the book down. I read the whole book in one day. The book is an easy read. I wish it was longer! It is certainly a book that all actors, singers, musicians, and other performers can relate to. If you think showbiz is easy, read this book!

I saw Terry's show in Las Vegas. I only wish I had read the book before seeing the show because I would have appreciated it that much more. I know I will see it again in the future because Terry said in the book that he will always offer new, fresh material.

This is truly an emotional journey. It is about a good kid who got it all in spite of a nightmare of a childhood. You find yourself rooting for Terry throughout the book...and just when you start to feel good for him he refers back to his satanic tormentor who kicks him back down to zero again, over and over: Heartbreaking stuff.

But in spite of it all we all know how the story ends so we are always waiting for the "good part" when Terry takes us through his experience at America's Got Talent.

My favorite part of the book is when he speaks of his late cat and the story about the sunglasses!

The book left me feeling bittersweet. I was enraged that anyone could have been so cruel to him as an innocent child who's only mission in life was to please. I wanted to scream out: "Terry, WE (your fans) are so proud of you!" He is the ultimate survivor.

You know the saying, "Nice guys finish last?" Not in this story...

5.0 out of 5 stars And you thought you had a rotten childhood, August 5, 2009

This review is from: Who's the Dummy Now? (Paperback)
This is a truly remarkable book which is well worth reading for a number of reasons. Parents should read it so as to know what to do and especially what NOT to do and even what NOT to say. Children, especially abused children, should read it to learn what to believe and what not to believe, and to help them through their most difficult times of suffering. And those seeking to achieve something in life might want to read it to see just what it takes to succeed and, as Terry says, to be prepared to walk through the door of opportunity when it finally opens for them.

At first glance, the book would appear to simply tell the story of the rise to fame of one of America's premier entertainers. But, if you read closely, you'll find that it does much more than that. It is a book which makes you feel, makes you think, makes you wonder - and at times may even make you cry. For it tells the story of Terry Fator's unhappy and impoverished childhood and of his desperate struggle to overcome the damage done by his overbearing and psychologically destructive father, the father who's praise and approval he desperately needed but which he was never able to obtain. It is also the story of a remarkable young man who, while facing his own demons and uncertainties, strove for decades to gain some measure of success in the world of entertainment. The most remarkable thing about his story, however, is that Terry Fator managed to endure it, eventually cast off his demons (stopped chasing the "White Rabbit"), and in the end achieved virtually all of his life's goals - and, most remarkably, he turned out to be not only a world-class entertainer, but, more importantly, a worthwhile human being.

But, as I said, this book also makes you wonder. While reading it: You'll likely wonder just how many truly gifted people in all walks of life are out there today, or have lived their entire lives in complete obscurity simply because they were never given the chance to succeed, or failed in life because they were unfortunate enough to have abusive parents or simply because of the wrong word being said at just the wrong moment.

This man has endured many things in his past. He never let his past overcome him. He always depended on God to get him through things. We all should learn from this because faith and beliving is what we need. Anyhow, I thought the book was great. Some of the things in the book i could relate too.

I would recommend this book to anyone. Terry is a great entertainer.

Thanks Terry for a great book!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ten Stars to Terry for Talent and Mentoring with Book!, June 20, 2009
This review is from: Who's the Dummy Now? (Paperback)
We loved Terry on America's Got Talent and then watched a live performance in Penna. His book sheds light on his childhood and family life and I know he'll inspire others. "Can't" was not in his vocabulary. Our humble thanks to Terry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining!, April 26, 2009

Terry Fator's presence on stage is one of great talent and great humility. His warmth and genuiness come through as he goes through his many songs and characters. What a joy it would be to go to Vegas and see him in person, but to see this show on DVD is the next best thing. It is so refreshing to be able to watch an act and know there will be no offensive material.

I had the great pleasure of seeing Terry Fator's show and he is the consummate entertainer. He is a ventriloquist who can sing, tell stories and jokes, do impressions of various singers, and everything he does is clean and fresh so it was a great pleasure to read his book. The book is his story; how he got started and his life. Upon reading it, I realized there were alot of sadness in this man's life but the thrill is watching him rise above it all.
