4.0 out of 5 stars Pertinent!!!!
The author presents his thesis with 3 star things his detractors "fail" to use. Logic, reason, and historical facts. This book represents the 70% of Americans that are in the moderate center, while poking huge holes in the left and right extremes. Chapter 9 was poignant. He describes the 3 foundations for his own success: discipline, education, and persistence. Candidly...

2.0 out of 5 stars It's not Bill looking out for me
I read Bill O'Reilly's "Who's Looking Out for You" a couple of years ago but I have now only begun to write a review of his book. Candidly going through a list of mistakes he made in his career. Contrary to a couple of mistaken reviewers, Mr. O'Reilly showed great humility. Some people resent a moral person writing from a non-relativist point of view, I found it refreshing!

This review is from: Who's Looking Out for You? (Paperback)
I don't agree with Bill O'Reilly on everything nor did I with my sainted mother!!
This book does show without a doubt that O'Reilly is indeed looking out for us--Most of us.
It's a quick read with many funny historical facts and neat pictures, especially the hair on O'Reilly. LOL

O'Reilly's observations are quite enlightening. This could be eye opening for some. It's sad but true and we need to know this and face the facts. Who else could do it but him?

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK, January 10, 2007
This review is from: Who's Looking Out for You? (Paperback)
BUT I FIND IT FUNNY THAT APPARENTLY WITH ALL THE LEFT WING NEGATIVE REVIEWS. THAT OBVIOUSLY THERE ARE ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT THE BOOK AND HATE HIM OR HATE FOX NEWS. SO WHY DID YOU BUY THE BOOK IN THE FIRST PLACE IF YOU HATE HIM OR HATE FOX NEWS? KIND OF STUPID DON'T YOU THINK...THEN MAYBE THAT JERK WHO SAID HE'D USE IT AS A DOORSTOP WOULDN'T HAVE TO WASTE HIS MONEY ON AN EXPENSIVE DOORSTOP WHEN HE COULD GO TO THE DOLLARSTORE TO GET A REAL DOORSTOP.

DON'T BELIEVE THE REVIEWS THAT SAY SUCH IDIOTIC THINGS BASHING THE GUY WHEN THEY CLAIM THEY SPENT THE MONEY ON HIS BOOK. LIKE MANY LEFT - WINGERS IT'S COMPLETELY CONTRADICTORY....JUST LIKE THEY DUPPED THE AMERICAN PEOPLE INTO VOTING THEM IN SAYING THEY WERE GOING TO BRING OUR TROOPS HOME AND DO IT WITHIN 100 DAYS.... NICE TRY :)

THE BOOK IS GREAT I RECOMMEND IT BIG TIME....GOT IT FOR MY FOLKS AS GIFTS EVEN.

J

2.0 out of 5 stars It's not Bill looking out for me, March 10, 2009
This review is from: Who's Looking Out for You? (Paperback)
I read Bill O'Reilly's "Who's Looking Out for You" a couple of years ago but I have now only begun to write a review of his book. Bill defends the program where Guatemala death squad members got paid by the CIA for information on communist individuals. Isn't this the utilization of situational ethics where one has to judge an act as a necessary evil (the paying of money to a bunch of thugs) for a greater good? Later in the book Bill states that he let Michael McGough "have it right between his politically correct eyes" in reference to McGough's defense of a VH1 program that allows prisoners in prison to perform on the show as musicians. Now, maybe McGough is wrong and maybe VH1 shouldn't have let this happen but how is doing so, PC?? Does this term have any meaning now? Later on Bill states in his criticism of anti-war protestors, "only people who possessed absolute moral certainly in this conflict were the ones who died for their country. The military heroes and heroines alone held the high moral ground, and nobody should forget it." I am not sure what his exact point is here. Is he making the case that by dieing for one's country that makes you right? Being absolutely morally certain isn't an argument that you are right on wrong in support of a war or that the anti-war protestors are right or wrong. It isn't an argument for anything other then the possibility of absolute moral certainly. The only people correct about a conflict are the ones who died? Frankly, this statement is purely emotional and not logical in the least. Mr O'Reilly lies about former Surgeon General Elders sayings drugs should be legalized. She stated though that question should be studied. In other words, she is open to the idea that public policy should be studied. This is what any good policy maker should do. Bill "hit me" Bennett has also lied about this fact about Elders. I think that we as a nation really have to look to change and reform our war on drugs. The war on drugs is leading to massive constitutional rights violations and increased violence in America. Mr. O'Reilly likes to make himself out as a moderate but he is only in comparison to others on the right such as Hannity or Limbaugh. He is what he is, a conservative who while isn't extreme, isn't a moderate.

3 Cheers for Bill O'Reilly and this great book of his.
I bought it as soon as it came out because Bill O'Reilly is my hero!
I watch his show every night.I never missed one episode of The O'Reilly Factor and I love him.
Bill O'Reilly is not just a brilliant man with an engineering mind but he is also a man of tremendous personality.
What I like best about Bill O'Reilly is his sense of justice.
Well, I like Bill O'Reilly's sense of morality too. And also his great wit.
This book is great and I would definitly recommend it. Not just to Bill's fans but to anyone who has an interest in todays'culture, and today's national event.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bill O'Reilly defies stereotyping - and that's a GOOD thing, November 17, 2007

This review is from: Who's Looking Out for You? (Paperback)
My experience with Bill O'Reilly is (a) Culture Warrior and (b) Who's Looking Out for You? In both books, O'Reilly is outspoken and opinionated - in a positive way. He's angry at powerful, privileged people who abuse their authority, and seems to genuinely care about 'everyday Americans'. As far as I can tell, Bill O'Reilly is NOT a far right pundit or right-wing ideologue as he's stereotyped in the media. He's a realist and pragmatist, and I think frankly has a lot of courage to attack powerful people the way he does. I recommend this book to anyone predisposed to dislike Bill O'Reilly. Whether your politics are left or right of center, he's a authentic voice in the wilderness of modern media, and worth listening to with an open mind.

My only criticism of this book's content is O'Reilly asserts Bill Clinton was ineffective getting things done, without mentioning the Republican-controlled Congress that was as partisan as any in modern history.

I listened to this book unabridged on audio, narrated by Bill O'Reilly. His passion and confidence make him the ideal narrator for his material.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting to a point, February 10, 2007
By

This review is from: Who's Looking Out for You? (Paperback)
"Who's Looking Out For You" is basically Bill O'Reilly's opinion on society today. The facts are presented from Bill's point of view, which makes the book relatively fun to read due to O'Reilly's blunt, in your face presentation of his ideas and what he thinks the problem with society is. However, Bill tries to give the reader advice throughout the novel, and no matter what he's complaining about, the message is always the same: Don't trust people in power. The fact that this message is being constantly thrust in your face makes parts of the book somewhat irritating. Another problem is that Bill is whining about something throughout most of the book. Due to this, the book could be viewed as a 100+ page complaint. However, the book is interesting and therefore worth the read in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Politically unsavy, April 5, 2008
This review is from: Who's Looking Out for You? (Paperback)
This book was written for the average politically minded individual. It is informative and gives the reader some things to think about, be more aware of, and to perhaps investigate with further research.

2.0 out of 5 stars O'Reilly refuses to answer his critics, I can't trust him anymore, June 15, 2006
By
This review is from: Who's Looking Out for You? (Paperback)
I used to be a big O'Reilly fan. I remember when Franken came after him and the only ammo Franken had against him was a misunderstanding about the Peabody award, which is barely anything. But I think Bill has gotten a little too confident in his own infallibility since them. His constant claims of being independent really got to me after a while.

But what really got to me was when I discovered that the liberal organization media matters claims to have collected endless accounts of distortions, myths and exaggerations by Bill O'Reilly, claiming he made over 75 untrue and questionable statements in 2004 alone, earning him the title 'misformer of the year'. Worse yet despite O'Reilly's constant claims that anyone who refuses to come on his show is a coward, the head of Media Matters (David Brock) has offered at least 4 times to come on the Factor and has never been taken up on his offer. I can't trust the guy anymore as it seems like he wont even answer his critics. I consider myself a logical independent who supports alot of conservative politicies, but I do it because someone proves they are the best idea. Not because a bully who seems to make endless distortions and refuses to answer for them is the one talking about them. When you don't answer your critics and you may even have a history of being untrustworthy, you do more harm than good to your own cause.

I think the level of what constitutes debate in this country is getting out of hand on both sides. We need more level headed conservative thinkers like George Will, and at least Jon Stewart tries to have level headed debates on the issues with his guest, even if he fails at it at times. I am lumping O'Reilly in with Coulter now, as an untrustworthy radical that drives away all the moderates. I honestly think he is doing more harm than good. Sadly, rather than address manipulations on both sides and turning towards more logical and accountable debate, I'll probably just be labeled a liberal and forgotten about.
