Quien es esa nina,
This review is from: Who's That Girl? (DVD)
This is my favorite Madonna movie and one of my favorite 80's movies because it is so funny and Madonna plays such a unique character.
Madonna plays Nikki Finn, a street-wise ex-con with white hair and a good left hook. Nikki meets up with Louden Trott (played by Griffin Dunne) who was assigned to pick her up after she was released from prison and take her to the bus station. Mr. Worthington (Bibi Besch) doesn't want Nikki anywhere near his daughter Wendy's (Haviland Morris) wedding to Louden because he was the one who set her up to go to the big house! Nikki convinces Louden to stop at the mall because after all her mom thinks she's been shopping for the past four years so it wouldn't be very nice to come home empty handed. But Nikki has ulterior motives because she wants to "cleah my name" and prove to everyone that she was set up. It's now a race to see if Nikki can con Louden into helping her. Along the way they fall in love. But Louden is an uptight boy from Scarsdale who has reservations about a kooky girl from Philly. But, Nikki gets to Louden's wedding and stops the preacher in mid-sentence so that she can tell everyone that Mr. Worthington set her up. She also informs everyone that Louden is really in love with her, and this time he has the backbone to fight for her. Wendy doesn't mind though, she has her hot UPS driver to keep her company. Louden and Nikki take their bus trip together back to Philly as Madonna's third '87 hit plays, "Who's That Girl." Madonna's acting was wonderful, and she sounded so funny and looked very sexy. But the poor thing was crucified for this picture, unrightfully so.

I am waiting with baited breath until the DVD version is released. This has been one of my favorite movies for over 10 years. Now I'll admit that this wasn't the "best" movie ever made and lacks just about everything that the movie critics are looking for, BUT - the movie is hilarious, has great comedy writers, great music and makes you feel good! I think that's how people ultimately judge movies, how it makes you feel!So it may not have been nominated for a Golden Globe or Oscar, but if you LOVE Madonna and enjoy a simple comedy, you can't beat Who's That Girl!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I got the e-mail from Amazon.com that this DVD was FINALLY getting released! It's still two months away, but it's worth every minute of waiting.
This is my favorite Madonna movie, hands down. It actually has a funny, yet clever plot, great soundtrack and some hilarious one-liners that you won't soon forget. The thing about this movie is you can watch it over and over and it never gets old. Some of my favorite one liners are: "Lowden Clear - well he hasn't exactly been Valentino in the sack lately"; "No one shushes Nikki Fin"; "Knock Knock, Who's There? Boo. Boo Hoo? Don't cry, we'll take the apartment!"; "Murray the Tiger! If there's only four left, it's not like you're gonna have another Murray"; and many others. Let the countdown begin!

The Best Madonna Movie of the 80s!!!,
By Chad's My Baby "You Know Who" (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews

This film is so funny and is sure to be entertaining even if you aren't a Madonna fan!!! Madge plays Nikki Finn, an ex-con who has to get home to Pennsylvania as soon as possible. Louden Troot (Griffin Dune) is hired to bring Nikki to the bus station to ship her away for good!! But a funny thing happens on the way to the bus station.... ....they fall in love. This makes Louden rethink his wedding plans and leads to a very happy ending!!!
This is a feel-good movie that you need to buy RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!! PS - Be sure to buy Madonna's new album "Confessions on a Dance Floor" out November 15th!!

Please, do we even have to ask? This film is a fun, charming, and hysterically funny screwball comedy. Some complained of the accent Madonna uses in the film. Yes, at first it was annoying, but you get used to it. Others complained that the movie was too dumb, and had no charm. Let me set the record straight, this film is supposed to be FUN! Featuring some of Madonna's most memorable songs including Causing A Commotion, The Look Of Love, and of course Who's That Girl. Why weren't these songs The Immaculate Collection?! I think the main reason this film did so bad at the USA box offices is that it got lost in the shuffle of Madonna's Who's That Girl tour. But, you should embrace this great film. Not as good as Desperately Seeking Susan, this film is still an enjoyable romp.Ex comvict Nikki Finn (Madonna) who served time for a crime she didn't commit is just set free. An attroney named Louden (Griffin Dunne) is asked by his fiance's father to transport Nikki to the bus station. But, of course, there are hundreds of complications along the way, including a 160 couger named "Murray". Later, Nikki wants to get into a safe deposit to clear her name. As all of the hilarious mishaps happen, Louden finds himself falling in love with Nikki. Overall Grade: A (10++)

Why has it taken so long for Who's That Girl to make it to DVD?? My roommate has this movie on Laser Disc. The quality of the laser disc doesn't give this movie justice, nor VHS. I prefer it as widescreen DVD. Eitherway, for the year this movie came out, it's one of the best entertaining films. If you want a fun movie to watch, then get this one.
Madonna does best when she's having fun. All her films are great except for a few, but who cares. When she's doing comedy, she's hilarious. Her role on Will and Grace proves how great she is when she's doing comedy. Why can't she do more like these? I love her work regardless and Who's that Girl soundtrack is just as great and fun as the movie. I totally recommend this movie to everyone.

I have the DVD, and I'm Happy!,
This review is from: Who's That Girl? (DVD)
The 1987 movie Who's That Girl has finally arrived on DVD.
Who's That Girl spawned two hit singles from the films soundtrack, the title track and the song "Causing a Commotion." The zany screwball comedy has a huge cult following and fans of the film couldn't understand what the films DVD hold up was all about. Fear not, Who's That Girl has arrived. The film opens with a cute cartoon that plays over the opening credits. At the end of the credits Madonna is seen in jail. Madonna stars in the film as Nikki Finn. Nikki Finn has just spent four years in the slammer (Slammer was actually an early title used in relation to the film). Griffin Dunne stars in the film as Louden Trout. Louden is engaged to marry wealthy New York socialite Wendy Worthington. Wendy's father tasks his future son-in-law with picking up Nikki from the jail and taking her to the bus station. He tells them it's a program named "Operation Prisoner Shuttle." In addition to picking up Nikki he also has to transport a huge mystery package he soon finds out is a huge cat that happens to be on the endangered species list. Of course when he picks up Nikki from jail things don't go quite as planned. She is determined to clear her name. He just wants to finish his pre-wedding plans and other errands. Insanity ensues. From almost getting hit by a train, to a heart attack scare, shoplifting, big guns, and the two bad guys set to keep Nikki from clearing her name, the day Louden picks up Nikki Finn is a day he will never forget. Nikki and Louden are the most unlikely couple ever but when it's clear there is chemistry between the two. Will Nikki clear her name? Will Louden follow through with his wedding plans? Well if you haven't seen the movie you will have to wait and see to find out. The DVD doesn't include any fascinating bonus material. No music videos, no featurette, however the soundtrack is re-mastered in Dolby digital 5.1. The DVD release also includes the films theatrical trailer and various language/subtitle settings. |
