Who's There? is an excellent choice for story time. It's just so packed full of noises, funny monster names, suspense and humor that it's guaranteed to draw in any story time audience. It's all about a little rabbit who keeps hearing noises and asking who's there? Everything turns out okay when he discovers that it's only his little brother, but in the meantime we are treated to the small bunny's wild imaginings about what could be making these thumps and creaks and thwacking sounds.
This has a great read aloud flow, but I would caution that if you want to "do it up right" a couple of practice runs are certainly helpful. I read this for a total of three different groups this week and by the third time around, I had every child's undivided attention - for the whole book. I just love when that happens. This is a recommend for any preschool crowd, especially if you are searching for books with a bedtime theme. The illustrations are large, bright, and detailed enough that kids will be able to appreciate each of the bunny's imagined monsters, and spooky enough to give everyone a sweet little thrill. An enthusiastic recommend for a book that will be going into my permanent story time collection!
