5.0 out of 5 stars The Author keeps up his standard
Really the only recomendation this book needs is that the author adheres to the standard he set in "Who's Who in Jazz - Storyville to Swing Street." If you have read this book and have any interest in British Jazz, Swing and/or Dance Music this book is your next purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars incomplete.... and not extensive enough
Some names are inexplicably absent (Mark Charig comes to mind), ans it seems that all entries are allocated a ceertain amountof lines, regardless of the extent of the careeer and oeuvre and rthere is no list of essential works or discography.... Indeed, is it normal that Dave Holland gets the same amount of lines (between 10 & 20) as some totally obscure trombonist like...

2.0 out of 5 stars incomplete.... and not extensive enough, November 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Who's Who of British Jazz (Bayou) (Paperback)
Some names are inexplicably absent (Mark Charig comes to mind), ans it seems that all entries are allocated a ceertain amountof lines, regardless of the extent of the careeer and oeuvre and rthere is no list of essential works or discography.... Indeed, is it normal that Dave Holland gets the same amount of lines (between 10 & 20) as some totally obscure trombonist like Chris Mumford?? A rather disappointing book, that is neither exhaustive, nor extensive, that seems little more than a detailed phonebook.

Can't understand this book is its second edition (and re-writing) and still presents such flaws.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have, October 30, 2001
If you are into swing, this book on the English swing bands is a must have. So, toss an LP/CD on the player, grab the book and just groove for a bit. Hotcha!!
