The concept behind this book is almost identical to that of last year's Whose Hat Is That? (Clarion), but this one is in glossy, full color. Nine different hats are worn by adults in situations with which the hats are identified, and by children who like to pretend. Hats for a chef, fire fighter, nurse and police officer reside next to not-so-career-oriented toppershats for a witch, a magician and a pirate. There is a spirit of playfulness and fun to the pictureseven the adults aren't entirely serious about putting in a hard day's work in this well-designed volume. Ages 3-up.

As a school speech-language clinician, this book is the best resource I've found for teaching kids vocabulary related to occupations and -s endings for possessives. For example, you ask "Whose hat?" and the children enthusiatically answer "the fireman's hat!"

Try reading this book to any age kids--even preschoolers--and asking a child to play A-E-G on the xylphone every time you read "Whose hat?" The kids like it!
