Editorial Reviews

The well-designed flaps mask each habitat (including a doghouse and a hippo’s jungle) completely after each reveal, and Sharratt’s brightly colored cartoons have an easygoing and friendly appeal.

Whose Toes Are Those is an adorable little board book that is sure to charm toddlers and infants with its bright colorful illustrations and peek-a-boo surprise flaps. Even though it's a bit small for group sharing, I've been using it in toddler story time with great results. The illustrations are simple and bright enough that they are still easily seen from a distance and kids really respond to the repetitive text. Each two page spread features the questions "Whose tail?" Whose toes?" and "Whose [...] nose?" Most of the animal is hidden by a sturdy flap that the reader can then flip over to reveal the entire animal. It offers a great opportunity to play with some animal sounds with the mouse, dog, and bear, and provides a nice ending when the final spread asks "Whose toes, whose nose, whose fingers are those?" The answer of course is a baby!

With its sturdy construction, bright colors, and big flaps, this is a wonderful choice for any toddler or infant's personal collection. Don't let the small size discourage you from using it with groups though! This is a short little gem that I guarantee will soon have your little ones growling and woofing along like pros.
