This review is from: Why America is Free: A History of the Founding of the American Republic, 1750-1800 (Hardcover)
This is an important book! Why? Because it tells the story of the founding of our Republic in a way that appeals to fifth graders. Following the story through the eyes of a young boy living it, gives students a real feel for the life-style, the thinking and the events of that era.

More of our young people should know this history, that is vital to Americans, so that we can keep the Republic given to us through the sacrifices of those living through this time. And the sacrifices turned out to be many for those who, just before their signatures, included these final words in the Declaration of Independence: "We mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor."

"Why America is Free" is the textbook used in the "Values Through History" curriculum ([...]) where fifth graders learn through living them, the events of our country's founding. The book is published by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association for the Society of the Cincinnati --- whose mission, since 1783, is to promote the ideals of liberty and constitutional government. How cool is that?
NRH :)
