Book Description

October 13, 1999
Out of the mouths of babes come words of wisdom. Author Dandi Daley Mackall asked children across the country why they believe in God. Their heartwarming—and often hilarious—answers will charm, inspire, and delight you. Inside, you'll discover such gems as:

• I believe in God, but I still wonder about a lot of things. Like I wonder how He made eyeballs.
• God is very powerful. He made the whole world in six days. It takes me that long to clean my room!
• There are so many people talking to God at the same time. He listens to every one of them and doesn't even have call waiting.
• And many more!

Recent picture books with Sleeping Bear Press include Legend of Ohio, Rudy Rides the Rails: A Depression Era Story (Notable Book 2008 - Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People National Council of Social Studies & Children's Book Council; winner of the Angel Award, 2008; Winner of the "Award of Excellence" from Chicago Book Show 2007) and 2008 release, A Girl Named Dan (her own "batboy" story, and a lesson on Title IX), 2 Mom's Choice Awards & Amelia Bloom Award. Eva Underground, Harcourt young adult novel, nominated ALA Best Book 2007, starred Kirkus review, awarded a Top Teen Read by New York Public Library, finalist for Ohioana Award, was based on the author's experiences behind the Iron Curtain. Love Rules was awarded Romantic Times' Top Pick. Middle-grade fiction, Larger-than-Life Lara, Dutton/Penguin, which teaches how to write, while tackling the problem of bullying, is on the KY Bluegrass Award List 2007-8; William Allan White Award list, 2008-9; KS and KY Children's Choice lists. 5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely made me laugh! A great little gift book!, October 27, 1999

I'm always amazed at the wisdom in what kids say. And the author has collected some of the best insights I've ever seen from kids. I especially liked the comment that there are so many people talking to God and he doesn't even have call-waiting! Humorous and insightful. A great little gift book or stocking stuffer for the Holidays. I've purchased seven for gifts already!

This is a book to give as a gift to someone you want to make laugh and still get to the essence of who God really is. The child like perception of the greatness of God revealed by children all over the country is expertly compiled by the author in a clever , uplifting way. The childlike faith expressed in the book will hopefully "rub off" on the adults and children alike who will be reading the different comments in the book. I have read all of Dandi Mackall's books and this one continues in the excellent tradition that has made her an outstanding author for Christian children's books!

This review is from: Why I Believe in God: And Other Reflections by Children (Hardcover)
With all of the talk about children and violence these days, it's so refreshing to see that children still have faith. Each child's individual account of how they imagine God is so touchingly innocent, I waivered between chuckling and happy tears. This is a perfect gift for Mother's Day to show moms that their religious influence can make a difference!
