This Must Be Heaven...,

Speaking of Miracles and Wonders! I can't say enough about the Chameleons new CD! I'm glad they were able to put aside their differences, because they make magic together. I've been a fan since I first heard "Thursday's Child," from Script of the Bridge. Their music sounds even better each time I go back and listen. Why Call It Anything contains their trademark ("shimmering" as one reviewer noted) guitar sound and thoughtful lyrics, and at times ventures into other territory. The last two songs have an almost "new age" feel. "Miracles and Wonders" contains some African sounding percussion and vocals alongside the layered guitar work. It's an interesting combination. "Shades" and "Indiana" show how the band can still rock. "Lufthansa" contains the line "A little rain's going to keep on falling on me. I'm going to keep on calling to you. I'm on fire beside you." It's quite memorable, and it just goes to show that the simplest creations are usually the best. "All Around" is a mostly acoustic number that in the end sounds like the sun setting on a town in the old west! Every song stands on its own, really. I just hope they continue to make beautiful music together. Give this CD a listen, and another, and another... because it sinks in deep.

A Miracle and Wonder,

WCIA is a confident, balanced, comeback album by one of the most dependably excellent bands I've ever heard. Lyrically and melodically it's not quite as strong as its three full-length predecessors. But there are no weak tracks, the production is wisely more reserved, and the band explores new styles and genres ambitiously and successfully without losing their trademark "coldwave" sound. This disc not only stands up to repeated play but grows stronger with each listen. Be careful though... The Chameleons (UK) are one of those groups where once you listen to one album you suddenly NEED to own absolutely everything else they've ever done. Ten purchases from now don't say I didn't warn you.

It is so thrilling to have new Chameleons to listen to. There is no band that touched my heart and soul during the darkest hours of a turbulent youth like these boys did. And this album is not only excellent on its own merits, but the signiture sounds of the echoing guitar and Mark's unmistakable vocals bring back memories associated with so many of their other classic songs. This is a treat for the fans!
